Elements
« on: January 02, 2006, 11:43:23 PM »
Hello everyone, I would like you all to download and try out my new RPG engine that i'm working on for my online game called Elements Online. Its for both MacOSX and Windows you can download the demos here: Windows Or MacOSX. Currently I'm using the graphics from RPG Maker XP. If you could tell me how well the demo runs on your computer and what your computer specs are, that would help out a ton.

Thanks in advanced to all to give it a try! :hi:

What's with that horrible jerky screen movement?
Fix that. None of the animations really look as good as they could with that movement.

I have dial-up. I refuse to download anything if I don't know anything about it. Even though you have a demo, could you post some info on the game? Plus a few screens would be nice :)

Ummm.... All I got was this little sucky map that you could move around on and that's it. I saw a crystal and two tents but I couldn't do anything with them. And yeah, that side scroll sux.

Im' going to have to agree with the fellas, it wasn't all the rage.
SOme things I noticed:
-Walking diagnoally, no sprites
-lagged walking
-can't go into buildings
-clouds were cool
-shoul'dve bordered it
-Didn't like that click and move thingy, but I did like it in Diablo!

A few modifications, and you got yourself a decent rpg engine, even though I haven't seen anything else.

Next Demo

Thanks guys for checking out my game. It was a very small walk around demo I just wanted to see how it ran on your computers.  I'v taken what you guys have said and im working on fix/putting your suggestions into effect. I've been working a ton on the game/engine and the next demo is just around the corner. This one will actuly be playable it currently has 2 quests I might complete the third before I relase it but not sure yet. I have added support for scripable NPC's and scriptable maps. All that is really left on the engine feature set front is to make the sound engine work on the MACOS version of the game engine so I can start adding sounds to the game engine. What do you guy's think about a lighting engine. I know it would slow down peoples computers. As I'm not using OpenGL or the like its my own custom graphics API for Windows/MacOSX. Anyways here are two new screenshots taken from the OSX client. More screenshot can be found on my web site Rpg-dev.com

No offence but err, that outside map is pretty ugly. Use more autotiles since you're using the rmxp rtp graphics, there should be a bunch. Add tallker grass, maybe some dirt, and other things like that. Since all 4 trees are dead, maybe add a lot of dirt so the land shows that. having all the trees dead and yet the ground is normal grass doesn't look quit right. Or if its supposed to be spring/fall when the trees don't have any leaves, add some snow or something.

Anyway right now, I know nothing about your game other then its online compatable. Maybe if this was the only rmxp game that I saw that was online compatable it'd be enough to get me interested. Post some info and stuff about your game's story and such.

Ok, I'm gonna be honest. The demo sucked. It was very jerky movement and there was no music. The landscaping was poor na dboring and there was only one map. BUT, I realize this game is in the beginning stages of development and it's online compatible. The first MMORPG for RMXP I've ever heard of. Because of that alone, I'm very interested to see how this turns out. Hopefully the mapping and movement improves and we can get some sound in there.

Goodluck with this, I know it must have been some work to get it compatible for Macs and Windows, plus online usuable. I give you props for that much. I'll keep an eye on this. :)

Its rmxp. Theres online scripts you can download in order to make your games playable online. I used to have them on my computer before it crashed and I lost everything. Thats why its not too impressive to have an online game with rmxp, vitually anyone could if they had the scripts. So yeah, I've seen a bunch of games for rmxp that claimed to be online games, I never really played any because they didn't look too good, plus I have a hard time playing online  games with dial up.

Ok there seems to be a bit of confusion. This game is not being made with RMXP I'm only useing the graphics from it. I'm developing the whole game engine and editors. Thus is why there is a client for MacOSX. The game is being written in 100% by me with most of the development taking place on the Mac Platform then ported over to the PC. No RMXP scripts here just 100% my codeing and my hard work. My game engine supports the RMXP graphic layouts/format so I basicly just imported them into my engine and can use the graphics from RM but other then that the engine is all mine nothing from RMXP. How could I anyways I would need the source code for RMXP.

Thanks for the map tip DragonBlaze I took what you said about adding some dirt it looks nice will add some screen shot later today or tomorrow.

Mac eh? I'll have to try it out when I get home.

I say if it gets good and developed you give everyone here free stuff. Sounds good eh? Anyway, the map needs some work. That is all......... for now.

Oh this isn't made with rmxp? Well its pretty impressive to program something like that, however I'm afraid the graphics your using just don't give your game justice. There are lots of other graphics you can use besides the rmxp rtp. I've seen a bunch of good non-rtp tilesets for rmxp around. Plus you can use graphics that aren't designed for rmxp as well, though you may have to change the format/layout, but thats just simple cutting and pasting.
