Super Mario Showdown
« on: November 19, 2005, 01:58:30 AM »
So I've got my name for the game. Heres the story, BTW-

Super Mario - A name everyone in the Game Universe knows. His success has made many jealous, but nobody more than Jumpman - The original Italian Plumber who appeared in only one game. For 15 years, Jumpman has had to live with the fact that he, the original Mario, was nothing but a mere rivet in the blue overalls of a certain Mr. Mario Mario.

But he's fed up with it now. Letting a very familiar enemy take control of his body, he's been granted the power to cast a spell - A spell that would take the greatest characters from all over the Gaming Universe, and pit them against Mario.

Meanwhile, Mario is sitting in his house, eating his favorite quadruple-decker shroom-steak and honey sandwich, when he hears his doorbell. Peach sent him a letter. Oh great. Another letter. That meant that he was to set off on another stupid adventure... with mushrooms as the only food choice. But before he could open the letter, something had knocked him cold...

He wakes up, Luigi standing over him. He helps him up and tells him that Peach has been kidnapped. No surprise. He also lets him know that he got a package. Luigi gives Mario the package, but Mario dosn't open it. Instead, he opens a note attached to the edge of the package -

"Dear Mario Mario and Luigi Mario- "

"It's me, Edwin Gadd. I've noticed lately that unusual things are happening in the Mushroom Kingdom, and more unusual than usual. I am fairly sure you've already gotten notification that Peach has been kidnapped, as so when all odd things happen here, yet..."

"...It's much worse than the normal Bowser scenario. I hear there are bad guys nobody has ever seen, just popping up. One has attracted special interest, though, and it's one that looks like you, Mario... Except sort of blocky, with a weird sort-of-cackly laugh. So, I had a brainstorm."

"Remember how easily you took care of that fake Mario on Isle Delfino? Well, you couldn't have done it without a certain somebody. Well, I've upgraded the little bugger. Go ahead, open the package. But before you do, be aware that these villians, they are after you, Mario. I think a couple of them are after you, too, Master Luigi."

                              "From,
                                          E. Gadd"

So Mario opens the package, and there it is... A shiny silver machine, with gold wording on it - "Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device... 3000!"

So Mario takes the updated Fludd module and begins his search for Princess Peach. Sorta original, to an extent.

There you go. By the way, the villians, they are possesed versions of assorted SSB characters. Eventually, you get 20 of them to join your team.

I finally have the characters done, and the combo system works for 6 characters so far.

The CBS is 24-karat gold. It's sorta like an RPG, but it's not. You basically have a list of commands, and you can choose 1-5 depending on what you want to do or what you are able to do, and your attack is based on those choices.

Example - Mario

Jump (1BP) + Slam (3BP) = Ground Pound

Jump (1BP) + Mario Spin (4BP) = Mario Tornado

Kick (1BP) + Mario Spin (4BP) = Spin Kick

Jump (1BP) + Fireball (3BP) + Mario Spin (4BP) = Meteorite Shower

Basically, the cbs goes just like this -

It takes 100 SP to level up. Every time you level up, you can either increase your HitP, BattleP, ComboP, or BadgeP. HitP is your HP. Common knowledge. BattleP are your Battle Points. You use these every time you attack. An attack such as Jump uses up one Battle Point. You can recharge these points by using Charge or defeating an enemy. Also, if you pull of a new Combo, all of your points automatically recarge. You see, much like Rikku's Mix ability, you don't have a list of combos. You have to experiment. If you use Jump and couple it with Fireball, there is no combo. All you will do is jump on the enemy, and then land, and then shoot a fireball. As soon as you pull of a new combo move, though, it gets added to your Combo Dictionary. Combo moves are normally more powerful that the 2 moves on thier own. Every time you use a combo, you not only use the specified amount of BP, but you also use up 1 ComboP.

Anyone who has played Paper Mario 1 or 2 will know what badges are. You equip these, and it can increase something, give you a new skill, do whatever.

So there.

I'll keep an eye in this, sounds realy good. If you want my suggestion, try adding some character from another mario games, such as Geno or Mallow from Mario RPG (snes)

Didn't you already make a forum with something like this? I remember seeing that whole BP combo ctuff somewhere else.... oh ya, your super smash bors rip-off. BTW, if you're done with that, can I have the Fire Emblem rips you were gonna use for that game? I'm thinking of making a tactics game, or using them for cutseens in my current game.

As usual, your ideas are 100% cool and original.

Eh, I wouldn't call it a rip-off, the other topic on this was when I was asking people to suggest names for this game. Which means both topics were about the same game, but here I've come up with a name. I came up with the idea for the name "Super Mario Showdown" about 20 minutes before posting this topic.

I can get Megas to send me some of his FE rips, and I can give them to you. Better yet, why not ask Megasxl yourself? It would be a lot faster. Although it dosn't seem that he's logged on much lately, I guess he's still working on Rebelhart.

Here you go. A pic.

It dosn't look too good in my opinion (The way the In-battle looks) so I'm still editing. This was a pic I took today, of the current In-battle system.

As you can see, it still has quite a ways to go, as it still looks too much like a shitty fan-game. Thats what it is, right now (in essence).

Hmm, the battle system does seem to be sorta blank. But, I think if you changed the background from a nes mario game to a snes game it would look a lot better.

The reason it's an NES background is because that pic depicts part of the game where Mario is in the Retro Colleseum. There are many different backgrounds in my game.
