If your doing rhythm, make sure it has at least one humbucker. I think they make a much better sound from strumming than single coil do.

mer, my Bich is not a new one, it's better then any new LP out there. So you may have heard the bich, but not a USA made one. The vintage LPs on the otherhand....thats a diff story, they're well made guitars. but unless you have that extra 1-2k on you...don't go for an LP.
actually the shape is not difficult at all, it's like a round, but with a cut. so...it's actually LESS in the way. This does effect tone though. Besides...what are you soloing on a humbucker anyway? If you're a soloist, by all means get a decent strat, or a burns. There's more tone difference in single coil pickups.
There are good epiphones...just they cost alota money. Like the lennon limited edition casino.<3
It's true though, there's a best guitar for everyone out there. Even though I know for a fact many new gibsons are fitted with plywood bodies. So at least with your new NJ bich, you have solid wood and a thru neck, not one thats binded on. Plus the stock pickups in gibsons/epis suck, you HAVE to get them replaced to play at a decent tone, otherwise you're stuck with a muddy almost tone. But hey...like I said, theres a best guitar for everyone.

Fender guitars are ok if you want to learn on them. I think that getting a custom made guitar is probably the best, just go to your local music store and giev them the specs and theyll make it for you.

^ Not many people have that kind of money to throw around.
Better idea - buy a really cheap used guitar, not a shitty guitar mind you, a decent quality one, and fix it up. I only recommend doing this if you are somewhat experienced with the technical works of guitars. For example, I am building a bass from a 1970's Fender Jazz knockoff. It sounded fantastic before, although it was in terrible condition. I am rebuilding it essentially from scratch, only using the neck and body.

Better yet, if you have access to a woodworking shop, make your own! Theres lots of resources on google about electric guitar making. As for amps, try
www.guitarfx.net
. Freeware (my favourite word) effects program, works just like an amp, booster and stompbox all in one!

actually the two guitars you have range from about 450-to 650. That's a good price for guitars. A solid, but not great guitar. I don't think any of us have that extra few grand lying around
