Just wonderin...~
« on: August 03, 2005, 07:29:09 PM »
Well I started thinking about something I read in the paper a few days ago. A mother is suing the creators (I think) of 'Grand Theft Auto' (the new one that's out I believe) because she bought it for her 14 or 13 year old son, and later found out there was 'porn' on it. I know, crappie description but I don't have the paper, so deal :p Now, I honestly think it was a stupid reason to sue but that's not really the point of the topic XD 'Society' has stated that 'video games, movies, and music' are possible reasons as to why people 'kill, steal, rape, assult..ect..' Honestly, I think that's a load of bull. I believe 'Hillary Clinton' is also taking a stand against 'Grand Theft Auto,' and there is another game that the Mayor (Mayor in New York, lmao who would've known?) has put a stop to. Forgot the title (If anyone knows what it's called, do tell), but I do know that in this game you can be a 'cop' or a 'thug' as in the 'good' or the 'bad' the whole point tp this game is to destroy the opposing forces. Now, the reason it was banned is because they figured the game would encourage people to attack and disrespect cops, and they also considered it a way for people to get interested in selling drugs. I think it's a load of crap, but hey maybe someone else doesn't. Personally, I don't think games or music or movies have anything to do with what a person chooses to do with his/her life. I mean, back in the 1700's there was only books, BOOKS! And yet, people were still killing, robbing, raping, ect.. So, how can they explain that? I'm really curious to know if there is a person here who disagrees XD. Opinions please! Donations accepted at the door! :p

I DISAGREE!!!  VIDEO GAMES ARE WARPING THE CHILDREN..*cough*..THEY ARE TEACHING THE CHILDREN TO DO VERY BAD THINGS!! VERY BAD!!  THEY.hahahahaha..Oh, I can never do that without laughing...

All this banning video games because it's warping kids is crap.  It's the parents fault, because they LET their kids play it.  The game is intended for what 18+ or something.  Yeah, those kids have 4-5 years left to be able to play it.  "Video games are warping our children"  What a load of crap.

I totally agree with you. And about that mother, she's dumb. It says on the box that there's swear words, violence, drugs and sexual content in the game.

Depression = suicide
Depression = drugs
Depression = murder
Depression = fighting

School, Family, Bullies = Depression

Do the math.

If anything, video games are helping because now if kids do have some rage, would you rather have em take it out on real-life people?  Or a bunch of 0's and 1's?  And has previously stated, all this "Very bad stuff" has been going on before video games.  Society is just looking for a fresh new thing to blame all this crap on.

I'll translate for those non-1337 speakers

Video games are not warping the children.

And even if video games are warping your children, that is if you truly believe that (which they aren't by the way), then don't buy your non-18 year old kids mature and 18+ games!!!

I think, we have to teach kids about the real world at an early age.

However, it entirely IS the parents fault, teh game is destinctly rated M, and the parent knows that, otherwise the kid probably would have bought it himself.

And I thought the porn was just a PC version mod.

Well, it probably isn't too spekal.  I haven't seen it, only heard of it.  But, If these kids are anything like me 1-2 years ago, they probably already know the details about all the woo-hoo and stuff down there, so I just don't see why it's such a big deal.  Parent's are probably just looking for a reason to complain, get on tv, get some money.  Probably don't even care.

games/movies/whatever only influence according to the person personality, but  doesn't turn turn ppl into killing machines

Yeah, thats what I heard.  3 months from now or something.  Yeah, it takes 3 months to put an AO (Adult Only) stick over the MA one.

It's not entirely the parent's fault. What about Rockstar? Why are they producing such violent games when they know something like this could happen?

Same deal with the Catholic chuch back then too.  They banned certain books because they didn't agree with the opinions of the author.  Did you know that in the game Clue (Cluedo to Europeans) Mr. Green is actually Reverend Green?  Why, because B.S. Americans will not buy it if it conflicts with their religion.  God how upfckingtight can you get?

Well, this is just what I'm guessing.  The majority of the gaming community want this type of game, so in order to compete with other companies, Rockstar had to continue making these games.  So, yeah, I suppose it's also the buyers fault.  But that brings back to being the parent's fault, because in order for kids to get this game, they need someone 18+ to buy it for them, unless they have an older sibling who buys it and lets their younger siblings get their hands on it.  So, I suppose it's a 3-way blame.

Gaming Comapanies/Parents/Gamers.

By the way, great signature.
