If he was your friend, he would have been wise enough to keep his problems (stealing) to himself and not involve you in any way.  It is not right for the authorities to charge you what so ever.  However, I would have told him he would be on his own that night and left when I saw him steal the beer.

i disagree trevo

the dude stealing things might have needed some mental support, and also they might have been friends for quite awhile.

Not a good excuse, no good friend drags another into such crap. He should be told off. And if he ever tries it again, he's on his own. It's inexusable to drag a good friend into your crimes, it's downright sick.

Next time stealing apears as something he has to do, make sure "you" don't get caught.
Sure, I'd be pissed too if a police arrested me for such matters. But I wouldn't be suprised, they're just doing their jobs after all.

i was in a similar situation:

my friend gets this brilliant idea to steal a stop sign from one of the newly rising subdivisions in our area. My brother and friend's brother both agree and start grabbing tools. I didn't speak up for the same reason. They would have just blown me off and done it anyway. This is where my reasoning went sour... I went with them. Of course, we got caught, and I was in trouble, even though I didn't even touch the sign. The most I did was go and pee on the side of one of the semi-built houses.

Anywho, if your with the group, its safe to assume that your a part of the crime in some fashion. I agree with this, even though I've been on the side in handcuffs. :p

Are we talking whether it was fair or whether is was just? Because fair has nothing to do with it. Unless we look at it this way:

It was unfair that the employees of both facilities had to deal with this character because his supposed friends would allow him to do something so unimaginably stupid in the first place.

I would do the same as you did. I wouldn't say it was him (unless, of course, he tries to blam ME or anyone else nearby), but if he was caugh and they asked me, I would tell the truth.

Meh, it's times like this that the "big brother" approach is better than letting it happen. It doesn't matter if he's a good friend, he drags you into this, he's doing it not only to him but you as well.

Well, you did know he was going to steal, but that's no reason to arrest someone. I hope you don't go all crazy and start hating the police. They're just doing their job.

BTW, I'm on no one's side.

I would let them steal. I wouldent steal myself, but I wouldent stop my friend from stealing and I wouldent tell. But if I got cought I would just say it was all him. meh... I dont really respect/care about any of my friends enouth to care if they go to jail. But that's just me being me. An ***hole.

meh... I suppose I'm just a bastard.
