Tremendous Cutscene Laid Out for You.
« on: September 13, 2005, 10:09:12 PM »
The game has yet to be named, and the story has yet to be drawn into very deeply, but, just to kick things off, I will describe a possible seen in the game.

*A man turns the corner exiting an alleyway and onto the streets of an urban neighborhood. He wears the hood on his black hoody up, drawn only tightly enough to hide his face. The baggy blue jeans he wears are ripped and torn in many a place, and visible traces of dried blood tatoo his apparel. He walks at a particularly fast pace, as if he is trying to be done with this part of town. Around him on this cloudy fall day, the streets are all but deserted, sans a few of the Vin-Tagé Corporation's hired soldiers, known more commonly as Shock Troopers for their choice of weaponry (shock batons which can be set to kill, and a specially designed "shock rifle" which can send as much as 500,000 volts of electricity hurtling towards their target, causing severe, often crippling injury, but more commonly, death). These heartless menaces have been sent in to control the citizens in the area to prevent any rebelious behavior. At this moment, they notice the out-of-place stranger moving quickly down the street.*
"Halt!" one of them screams. The man turns a deaf ear to his order, and is quickly surrounded by five guards within earshot of the event. "Down on the ground" one of them orders. "Not a chance" replies the man. In one fluid movement, he throws back his hood, revealing his spikey blue hair and blue eyes, and produces a gun in his left hand, while a sword whips of from seemingly nowhere, only to be held firmly with the hilt in his right hand and the blade through the trooper who addressed him. "It's him!" cries one of the soldiers. "Calling in backup!! Take cover!". Within seconds, a chopper flies by and a wave of ten or so additional troops drops in on the scene. The remaining ground soldiers fall back and draw their sidearms; not have been prepared for battle, they had only pistols with them, and due to a recent occurance involving this man a week before, the shock rifle manufacturing plant had been destroyed. The incoming soldiers weilded various high-caliber assault rifles and SMGs. They begun to open fire on the individual, but were at a loss when he seemingly vanished into thin air. "What the hell? Where'd he go?" Within seconds, the troop found his answer in the form of three men around him falling in half as the sound of metal slicing through air reverberated through his skull. As he turned to confront the adversary, He met with the barrel of a gun. The last thing he ever heard before the bang was one word-"Hi." As his body flew over the hood of the car he was behind, bullets began to fly past the man's head. He ducked down just in time to avoid having a lead tumor implanted next to his cerebrum. He fired blindly once under the car and was rewarded with the sound of pain as a soldier fell to the ground, dropping his SMg. It slid under the car and was soon firing rounds at the same man who had dropped it. He was dead before he hit the ground. When the man peeked back up, he saw the streets cleared, noticed the sleeve of a trooper sticking around a corner, and lobbed a grenade in that area. After the explosion, he used the smoke to move into the now vacated alleyway, and away from the dead zone. As he rounded the corner, he noticed a sniper on the building opposite him. He quickly rebounded off the building opposite him and into the second story window of the building where he had been leaning against. Seeing through the adjacent window that the sniper's aim was poised at the spot he had been previously, he took advantage and placed a round into his skull. A few more guards filled the streets as the man made his way to the rooftops. As he reached that spot, he heard the crash of a door breaking in. "Clear on this side. Better get moving" he said as a grenade rolled down the stairs towards the hall that was by now filled with soldiers.

Notice the sword is used only twice, the two grenades involved, and large emhasis on the guns. And how he doesn't win, he just owns them before he runs off. Anyway, I came back to post some charaset picks of the Shock Troopers and the character, and a set of me before my discraceful haircut. And without glasses. Because they always come out oversized. Oh, and a body guard from another cutscene. And some black for another cutscene.

You gotta be kidding me. "notice he doesn't win, just kills a ton of guys and runs away willout a scratch."

Oh yeah, that sounds like a draw right there, I can't believe I thought the guy won! I mean, he only killed armed guards with a sword, shot a couple guys up, threw a few gernades, and got off with a clean slate. That's clearly not enough to win, no, in fact I think I could safly say he lost, because he sword got chipped a bit in the corner.

Edit- Also if you wanna get real technical, the bullet hits you before you hear it, hence the the fact that bullets can break the sound barrier.

You are not very good at reading the entire story, nor are you good at using an "action movie style" state of mind. But I'm sure one day you'll make a great movie critic who is hated and feared by many and can influence large groups of moviegoers to disown the mere idea of once feeling an interest in a truly great movie. Not an insult or burn or painful comment, just a thought.

Oh, and the bullet didn't break the sound barrier. But that would be a good idea... You can judge more once we finish more of the story. Thank you for pointing out the diffenerces between a video game and the real world. I will reivise this for you, seeing as sci-fi, fantasy, and action can't possibly be blended in this game and give you a rational idea of this event. I feel sorry for your lack of imagination...

Hmmm, I never said it couldn't be done, I'm saying it's been done to death and is mindblowingly cliche.

What? What kind of bullets dont break the sound barrier?

I agree with Meiscool, really clichee how a spikey-headed badboy kicks an army's *** with a sword.

Wow. I feel so excited. I'm being criticized. Look, it's a game. Must all things be at a level of ultra realism? I find things with compromised reality tend to be more interesting. That's ok though. This is about the game and the kind of action to be found in it, not the realisticity of this isn't on trial. And if you really can't find the fun in it, DarkFlood will be writing an entire seperate half of the game following a completely different character with completely different action. Wait 'til Saturday so he can tell what he's got (if he has anything). And one last note: this scene was written on the spot. I thought it was fun and good for an instant action scene.

As for cliche, I understand a cliche idea of better than god style heros, but as for the actual action, I've only seen this in about two games, three movies, and three cartoons. Not exactly done to death. Giant robots, elemental crystals, gods, evil beings in control of the world, and dragons are cliche.

Probably. He does that. But he only posted one game (that I know of. And it was in my name.) Actually, we're trying to push on our individual talents. I make the maps, charasets, events, and cutscenes. Darky,as I've taken to calling him now, is good with battle animations,
B. Charasets, and making chipsets. And finally, Cirel if good with the story. He lacks talent otherwise. This was just a quick original. And by the way, don't most all games have characters that survive overwhelming odds and come out on top? Being at a godlike level is what makes them fun.

Yeah.... you'll never make a game like that.

For starters, you write it like a movie, which is a huge flaw. I'm writing a book as though it is a movie, it's basically the same thing as what you've got, only it's in a post apolicitic (sp?) world, so I have an escuse to use swords and spears because their are no more ammo factories. Plus, I have supernatural powers that are caused by the radiation from the nuclear blasts that destroied most of the world.

Next, TAKE OUT THE SPIKY HAIR. This is EXACTLY like a Cloud ff7 wannabe thing. Sword vs gun, with gernades and spiky hair....

So yeah..... make it a play or something, not a game. You can't write action seens for a game. It just turns into something like Xenosaga with no gameplay and tons of movies.

Actually, my written story here is a first to help explain the scene in further detail. The spikey hair is only written out because of how RM2k3 makes ppl look due to size restrictions. The reason for the sword is involving DarkFlood. I wanted guns, but he wanted "swords and sythes and spears for some reason". Not my idea, but a confrontation with his character is expected in the story. The sword might be taken out due to a picky audience. And that's an interesting idea. Making a movie with RM2k3 coud be fun... I just might do that. And I know you didn't say "with RM2k3", but it's easier for me and costs less for quality scenes.
The sword was just a fun concept for his dual weilding ability. I was planning on making weapon combos, but that looks scratched.
