Thinking of makeing a tutorial for new-commers?
« on: September 16, 2005, 06:08:59 PM »
Basicly the tutorial will be a rm2k3 game including things such as variables and switches. Maybe have a fact with it aswell. For ex: Have a # guys standing next to eachother and you talk to the first and he says Welcome to the tutorial! Talk to him again and he says maybe you should talk to the guy next to me in ( red ) Talk to him and it would say Im in desperate need of a potion. so-on-so-forth. At the end have text explaining exactly how a switch works, variable and so forth. I was inspired by http://charas-project.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=9991&forumid=22&catid=8's which I just learned how to use variables to some extent! ( Took me 2hours desiphering what I needed and didn't... didn't realize there was an actual event called Conditional Branching that I had to use lol! ) I figured it would be a nice welcome for the new-commers who need to understand the basics! I would have a step by step explination as to how to use a switch. How does this appeal to everyone else? I feel I havn't helped as much as ive been helped i'd like to contribute to this site as much as posible =3

What do you think that guide is? Why waste your time re-writing one for no reason?

The guide was slightly more advanced, not broken down enough in my opinion =3 Basicly I would make a step-by-step procedure of how to use switches and variables. For ex: Make a game call it whatever you want. Then on the bottom left of your screen it will show your maps that are created. By default you have The game name and MAP001. Right click MAP001 and click Map Properties.
At the top left you have the name of the map ( MAP001 ) Under that you have the tile-set and under that you have Deminsions.
Change the deminsions to 20 x 15 as you won't need much room.
Once you have done that place grass on all places. Now right click any of the places and at  the 2nd to the last part says Place Party Starting Position. Click that and that is where your party will start off when you test your game. Now right click a different spot and click New Event.

So on so forth! Its like a tutorial for people who like it bit-by-bit placed. I myself find this 100% easy, no faults able to be made unless your a 5 year old who doesn't know what right click is o.0 Personally I think this is the best type of tutorial there can be. Easy to use, and understand. Not to mention the person takeing the tutorial actually is instructed as to how, not only do they hear what to do but there given a step-by-step process TO do it.
 :jumpin:

All opinions apreciated =) I'd love to know what other people think, wheather or not people would use it if I took the time to do a very in-depth tutorial.

I'm currently working on a wiki for RPG Maker here.

It could function as a guide once complete.

Notice that was a 1-month topic kick that could have been easily replaced with a PM?

as fo the tutorial, I don't know. I think there are already a lot of those out there.
