Wow, it's been a long time, hasn't it?

I just finished this song that's supposed to sound sort of like it was from the Mega Man X series (the SNES ones that is), even though I haven't really played much of them. So, here it is.

^Quite good, I haven't played many MegaMan games either but I agree that it fits the theme well.

I've also taken a look around the topic, and I loved those Sonic 2 remixes you made. Boy, does that bring back some memories...

Lately I've been playing around a lot more than making new music. Hacking Sonic 2 Beta music via Sonic QX (by one of those crazy amazing hackers) has been one thing I've been doing. It's a pain because you need to make the MIDI so that it'll work correctly with the app, but I figured out the basics and even learned how to port the songs into certain other games via another crazy amazing hacker's tool (though I have to do some hex stuff myself with that one, but not much).

But anyway, onto the important part, the actual music. I've been redoing a lot of stuff I had already made from a long time ago and been trying some other stuff.

http://www.box.net/shared/r2h066cy90 - The old Chemical Plant rewrite I had done for my old soundtrack rewrite I had been working on.

http://www.box.net/shared/mv22yf9oco - Not sure if I ever posted this one online before, but here's Sonic remake of it anyway. The loop's screwed up, as you might noticed in the end, but that's okay.

http://www.box.net/shared/6byz40czll - Hang Castle. The only decent stage from Sonic Heroes.

http://www.box.net/shared/ie313bzqyr - And this one... well, you'll see. :p

One other thing I did was make an MS Sam rap for no good reason. I was bored, like I am now, and my friend and I were talking back and forth in rhymes so I could do this.

http://www.box.net/shared/byg20bmxe5 - WARNING: THERE'S ACTUALLY A HARRY POTTER SPOILER IN THIS

Don't ask why I make music sound older and more fake-sounding rather than newer and more real-sounding. I've just always loved the way 16-bit music (especially Genesis) sounded. :p

I love FamiTracker. It's basically a way of creating true NES music. The stuff I did a while back was a soundfont that didn't work that well. Trackers are much better tools. Here's some random rewrites I did with it:

http://www.box.net/shared/m7gegtv8uf - Castlevania Vampire Killer

http://www.box.net/shared/yvtl57nmc4 - Castlevania III Aquarius

http://www.box.net/shared/vx6je0s1yl - Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow Clock Tower

And an original:

http://www.box.net/shared/9syrivsgbj - Castlevania-eque song I call Opening Act

So, yes, in other words, I've been doing a bunch of CV stuff (and some other things too), but there's so much fun stuff you can do, like even sound effects. I'm still learning more about it.

wow, I'm impressed with your work. I like your sonic remakes back from August. Your 16-bit CV sound tracks are just fuckin g fantastic! I wish I could hear the words better on the rap though.

Thanks, man! Yeah, the rap was just kind of a joke. I guess I should've probably posted the lyrics. Oh, well. Glad you like the NES stuff, they always take more time than MIDIs. Not as much time as the Sonic stuff though.

OMFG, I can't believe I missed this! Vampire Killer must be my all-time favourite from the Castlevania series...where did you find those programs, if I'm allowed to know? I want them!
...Googling.
And Discover seems quite sweet too...Glad to hear you've gotten better, or so I think.

Thanks!

I've been working a lot more with FamiTracker and have learned a lot since my last update (mainly about instrument editing and creating more realistically fading instruments and not just making notes staccato to end them, which is mostly only done in the triangle wave channel).

Anyway, here are a couple of original creations.

http://www.box.net/shared/6gq09rr2h0 - Upward Climb

http://www.box.net/shared/bdtxvzcp9g - Chippin' Away (Yeah, as in chiptune... oh, the puns I make when I'm bored.)

I feel like I must have been thinking of Tetris or something when I made Chippin' Away. Feels sort of like a fast-paced reaction puzzle-type game to me.

By the way, have I mentioned that these are NOT to be used without my permission? Just making sure, though I don't think the people who comment here would.

Haha, I love 'em both. But Chippin' Away was great! I could see it in Tetris or like a puzzle scene in an RPG.

Heh, cool. Upward climb reminds me of Phantasy Star 2.
