FFVII
« on: October 24, 2005, 04:56:45 PM »
So upon viewing Advent Children, thanks to my co-worker, I decided to do what I had vowed never to do. I'm playing Final Fantasy 7. Why did I vow never to do it? Hype. Oh all that nasty hype about how cool a game it is, coming from people who are easily impressed by magic tricks (3D graphics) and have never played an RPG before in their lives (in my experience that is. I never had FF7 endorced by someone I know and can trust as far as RPG recommendations), I felt that these people didn't know what they were talking about.

Well, I must say I'm thoroughly confused now, as I've just left Midgar (Disc1) and the plot has thickened. Interested about some of the different aspects of the game (the copy I got from EBGames has no instruction book... and having FMV trouble) I eventually looked deeper into the storyline of FF7. And man is this thing deep.

I'm gonna enjoy this.  :D

While I haven't built an opinion on the game yet, I may very well come over to the FF7 group. Though, to be fair, I should replay FF8 (my current pick).

If anything, this will only help me to strive to make a better game.

Why do you think FFVII is such a well-known game? It has a good plot, the graphics (for their time) were awesome, and the materia system is fairly unique (again, for that time).

And also, you can learn something from every game you play. If it's good, you can say "Well, this idea would work perfectly in my game if I tweaked it a bit", or if it's bad, "Well, they did this and the game was bad, so if I change that, it'll make my plot better".

definition of bagging in this context, please?

I would not say anything bad about FF7, but I just didn't want to play it... Whatever, its justified in my little world.

But I'm enjoying it now. Just got off the boat in Costa de Sol (hey, I have a job and crap. leave me alone) :)

I can really say, easily say that no RPG made after FF7 is better than FF7. Plotwise, character-wise, production-wise, music-wise, etc (what a bunch of made up terms...i guess). And take the word from a guy thatīs played more RPGs than youīll probably play in your whole life. Itīs an amazing game, enjoy it the best you can. Sad thing is that it'll become the reference to you when judging other RPGs, and that'll ruin em' all...

This "I'll not adhere to these fashion things cause I like to be different" is just stupid, cause you miss the best of some things that you may like, but you donīt try cause you think you'll be the cool one...donīt ever do that. The only thing thatīs fashion nowadays that you souldnīt try is drugs. The rest, itīs all experience. Donīt do that to yourself.

lol.

On the contrary, I choose nonconformity because I refuse to allow others to dictate to me what is "cool" or "fashionable" or "good", not because I believe it will make me cool. By not conforming to the standards of society, I am thus deemed "uncool".

Well, that's dumb too...no offense. Cause not everything that is fashionable is bad, or will cause you damage (brain damage, physical damage, whatever damage...). Well, I guess youīll undewrstand what I mean once you beat FF7 (or once you get to a certain fun place of the game...)

Oh I'm already having fun with the game.

I guess it stems from control issues related to... WAIT Why am I justifying myself to you!? :p

Anyways, its hard to explain, but it works out for the best for me.

I dont like FF7. FF7 doesnt seem final fantasy enough. Its just not what you would expect. Im not saying that you shouldn't play this but I think you should play the past games before 7. You'll see the difference. To everyone's responce (Caves of narshe Ect), FF6 has the best storyline and best characters. Cloud and Aris in FF7 are annoying. Tifa rox :) But, play FF 3 4 5 and 6 first. And if you havent Seen the Movie for FF5, you should watch it (Its not the best in the world, but atleast FF5 got attention)

If you include side series it's like my.. 10th favorite Final Fantasy..
Heh.
It's extremely over rated, but it doesn't mean it's a bad game.
I didn't like it because it was right before people realized you could break out of the turn based box of boring standard, half-of-the-game-is-movie misfunnery.
