Graphics Cards?
« on: November 11, 2005, 06:54:50 AM »
I was just wondering what graphics cards are good, and what kind you use.

When I originlly built my computer, I only had $400, so I just got an integrated gfx card, I made sure my cheap mobo supported gfx cards, but I didn't look into them any more then that. Anyway, now most of the games I play are all choppy or have a low FPS.

So yeah, what are some good gfx cards, and about how much do they cost?

The ATI chips have better colour quality than GEForce. I suggest the ATI Radeon 9000 series.

Thats somewhere around $115 - $120 :)

I don't know much about gfx cards, theres Nividia, Radeon, and GeForce, but I don't know which brands are good or not. Then 256 MB is about standard right? Is there anything else I should look for in a gfx card other than the MB size?

Hehe, so many questions :p

EDIT: I didn't see Link's post, well one of my questions was answered :)

as long as its 128 to 256 its good. A good sheap one is the XTasy ATI Radeon 9550. Its cheap, only less than $140 cnd with tax. If you can affords a more advanced one, go for it, because you will need to upgrade again in 3-4-5 years.

Thanks, I don't want to buy anything too good since I don't really play games too much on my computer (or anything else that requires a good gfx card). But right now my integrated gfx card is only giving me 32 mbs :(

I'll probably try to find a cheap 256 mb one.

I use an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9600, though I have not been able to test my PC's performance on any of the latest graphics heavy games (Half-Life 2 for example) since I got that card due to a lack of funds. However, I've been maxing out the performance on the games I do play without an issue.

Lol, I can play FFXI at 60 FPS no problem with the advanced filtering options as well :p. Well actually, I can't run it on any resolution higher than 640 x 480 :(

I'll check into that ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9600, I'm very low on funds as well :p. Right now I got maybe $30  :( , so I won't be able to get one till after christmas, unless I am able to get a job that is :)

GeForce has really blocky colour compared to ATI. And try to get it installed at a pc stor, because if the card isnt recognized by your computer, you can have some serious trouble convincing the store to let you return it. I speak from experience...

Aww, I always get my pc stuff from newegg, so I can't really do that. I got my 19 inch lcd monitor from newegg for 250, where as it would have cost me 350 to 400 at Best Buy. Unless somehow the card I want is the same price as one at a store, I'll be ordering it online. I'll just have to hope that it is recognized on my pc. As long as you don't buy an OEM card, graphics cards should come with a cd with the drivers needed right?
