Ya, but some pcs (like mine  :s ) need a special type of card, (like ADD)  which can be kind of hard to find out what. And all cards come with drivers, so you dont have to worry about that.

Nvidia GeForce FX 5500

Yeah that seems to be good for the price.

After looking a while I'm probably going to go with the Radeon x800 if my budget allows. It looks like I'm going to need a very good gfx card for the things I plan to do with my computer. If I can't find a job then I'll have a low budget and probably go with the GeForce FX5500.

Well, this was my mom's lappy before I sto... I mean borrowed it, so it has integrated graphics. I hate that so much. I wan't to save up for my own compy because I'm lazy, there's so much that needs to be upgraded (graphics card, sound card, hard drive with more than 20GB, etc.), and I honestly wouldn't know enough about what I'm doing to try and change anything inside this lappy. Besides, when I finally break down and get a job (prob'ly at Taco Bell, a fitting job for me, Taco Bell. Or at least that's what my friends call me. Because I'm the 'white mexican'),I'll need something to motivate me to keep it. Sorry if this post was ungodly to read. I just enjoy parentheses. And now, for some reason, my fingers are bleeding. Seriously. I think I'ma stop typing now.

i have NVIDIA 6600 but damn i got it with the computer so i dont know the price.. But it runs BF2 with great graphics and cod2 with optimal graphic. If u are a real graphic hunter u should aim for 8000 - 9000 at graphic cards like "NVidia 9800 pro" or something. But they may cost alot ^^

Yeah, I don't want to spend more then $200 on a gfx card, probably more like $150, so whatever I can get in that price range which is good. I'll look into that NVIDIA one though. I'm not a big fan of NVIDIAs because I had an old NVIDIA card that was just horrible, but from what I heard NVIDIA is getting a lot better again, so I'll just have to wait and see.

It's extremely hard to upgrade a lappy, and for a lot of them its impossible to do so. Each company builds their laptops differant ways, and each of their models are usually built differnant ways. In order to get new parts for a laptop, you have to buy it for the right company and model. If there are any upgradable parts, it'll probably cost a ton.

My old laptop that broke needed a replacement mother board. Just to replace it, it would cost close to $700. Instead I built my own computer that just killed my old laptop for $450. Now I just need a gfx card and it will be complete, mwhahahahaha.

If you're feeling ambitious, try building a computer. It's usually cheaper if you do. just be sure to buy the parts from an online store such as newegg.com. Stores like bestbuy are just  :yell:. The radeon x800 is $300 there, and $190 at newegg. The monitor i have right now cost $250 at newegg, and like $400 something at best buy...

Why would you buy a motherboard at Best Buy? Do they even sell motherboards?

Best Buy is the store for people who want to go and bother someone with questions like:

"Do you have that thing that plays music?"
"A CD player?"
"No the thing that plays music..."

or perhaps,

"I need some memory for my computer."
"Okay, do you know what kind?"
"The biggest you have."
"... Does your computer take PC2100 or PC3200?"
"I don't know."
"Okay, what kind of computer do you have?"
"I don't know... I got it from Target."

well best buy does have that extension called the "geek squad" .
it's basically a tech branch. Even though 12 year olds could do what they do, they can still help you out more then regular best buy

I don't even think you can get mobos at best buys, I was just saying if you would ever want to buy computer parts, don't go through a retail store. The only thing I get from best buy would be the free AOL  disks so I can upgrade my AOL to the newest version when they come out.

The mobo I needed for my laptop was only avalible at gateway's website, and it costed a ton, basically because it was from an old model. Thats why is kinda pointless to try and upgrade laptops sometimes, you have to find the parts that are specific to your model, and if its an older model, it'll cost you a ton.
