A map making contest
« on: December 20, 2005, 03:11:08 PM »
I was just thinking... we have all kinds of contests here, or at least used to.
So why not a map making contest?
I've seen we have a lot of talented map makers at this community and this is one of the contest where I feel like I could stand a kickin' chance to win.
If no one else would like to I could hold the contest but I'd also like to take part in it, so obvoiusly we'd need a good jury. Which shouldn't be too hard to find, and when I say jury I ain't talking about "I-support-my-bestfriend-no-matter-what people". I want a jury hard like steel!
Would anyone happen to be interessted?

I been thinking it all carefully over for two minutes and I think we should have different genres in the contest.
Like this:

-Forests
-Villages
-Inners
-Mountains
-Worldmaps
-Dungeons
-Beaches
ect...

That way, we could have a lot of winners.
I don't know what else to say, so I'll just ask if there's anyone who agrees with me. A mapping contest, or not?

Idea=greatness.

However, would it just be map based or would it be events in map as well, but I can make a good map, but I can make a killer map with events tagging along.

Because I wrote a tut on mapping, and because I wouldn't want to grill all you guys (J/K), I'll be a judge along side you Lil Robbie if you would allow it. I enjoy judging screens of people's games anyways, so this would be the next step up.

I think it's a great idea. I most likely won't be participating though because the progress on my game is going way too slow, and if I want to kick it up a notch I have to avoid things like these.

Nice to see so many's up for it.
And, sure Meiscool I could probably need a helping hand, but what is that you wish to help with, judge? Because I was thinking it would be a challenge for me if you were in the contest and if you were both that and judge it would end up... quite odd.
Why don't we skip the jury idea and let people vote instead?

And, yes. Any kinds of events can be used, even pictures just to make the whole thing look as good as possible.

He he, yes, It would be judging. But, if you would like me to face off against you I'd be happy to. But, we need a floating island section in that case.....

Edit- Wait, so how would people see the events? Would we send them a game with the map in it or what?

A rule request: The maps can't be already made maps from your game. You have to start from scratch.

Sure we can't determine whether you will, but it's always good to be honest, isn't it? Especially this time of the year, "he" is watching.

I won't do it then. I don't have the time to make great maps that I won't/can't use.
