Sad news for musicians

As of January 1st 2006, online Tablature sites are illegal. All tabs must be bought in the official tab books. If you don't believe me, check Mxtabs.net which isn't up any more.

The reason for this is that the companies who make tab books feel that they are being ripped off, as they assume all online tabs are stolen from their books. Personally, I believe that this is not a good idea, because most people don't want to shell out $35 bucks (CAN) for a book of music. There are a few renegade sites still up, but I expect them to be gone soon.

So fellow musicians, comments?

This things makes me mad. Companies are real tirants when it comes to music.

Tabs aren´t ALWAYS stolen from their books, (I´m not saying it doesn´t happen), there are people who just know them from listening to a song. (Played by ear, ask my bro Kinslayer about it...)

They can chase you from downloading an "illegal" tab, but if you go to a friend´s house and copy/scan it or something you are free. They won´t make more money from that, all they´ll do is bother people who want to be able to play their favourite songs.

I don't use tabs, since I don't play guitar. But simply losing the websites shouldn't be that big of a deal. Simple forums, like this one, can suffice in the creation and distribution of the creations.

All this means is that you can no longer run to a site and browse through it's collection of tabs to find what you want. Instead, you will have to search for someone or someones that have figured it out.

Well, thankgod for the russians!

I'm new to gutiar, so I've used tabs, I don't think it's right that companies go and get the govt. to outlaw onlines tabs. It's not just THEIR songs ppl make tabs for. Some ppl make tabs of their own songs.

Slowly stripping down the Rights of Free people and soon we will all fall victim to corrupted politcs and jack-*** monopoly... :(

The government had no hand in this.
The MPA banned tabs on the net.
I've just been using ultimate-guitar, because they have power tabs on there.

Thats BS. Most tabs are tabbed by ear. They should know cuz most tabs sound nothing or look nothing like the ones in their books.
