Batman & Butterfly Effect
« on: January 13, 2006, 04:17:36 PM »
I'll start with what I'm a little giddy over: The sequel to the Batman prequel. I know some people who didn't care for the new rendition of our caped crusader, but I for one thoroughly enjoyed it. Its got a much better feel than the others, though I will still consider the Tim Burton movies as classics and never forget them.

On with the rumors (as found at http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/680/680940p1.html )

To summarize, the tidbits of information given lead to speculation that the next villian(ess) in Batman will be Ra's Al Ghul's daughter, Talia, and that the role of Joker could be filled by Johnny Depp.

Again, speculation and rumor, nothing set in stone as I understand.

The other topic, found at http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/680/680960p1.html, indicates that another Butterfly Effect movie is in the works. Thats not the interesting part, however. The article mentions that SCI FI has a Butterfly Effect series in the works, following "the same time-travelling premise as the films", set for a 2007 launch.

So, discuss.

Well, Butterfly effect was just fine as a single movie, they'll prolly ruin it with a sequel AND a series.

As for Batman 2, that sounds pretty cool. It'd be funny to see Johnny Depp as joker, he's a weird guy, so he'll prolly do just fine. Though I doubt he'll be doing it since he's off working on Pirates of the Caribbean 2. I actually liked the new Batman, it was funny, cool, and actually made Batman seem realistic. I was surprised when I saw the movie, at first I thought it was gonna be pretty lame, but it wasn't half bad. The new Batman should do just fine, and a number 2 was expected.

JD as joker would be waaaaaayyyy cool! But BE2 would ruin the whole magic of the first movie...there´s nothing more to discuss on that (specially cause the ending I saw was different than the one in the DVD! The one I saw he watched a movie of him as a fetus and he hung himself with the umbilical cord (sp?)...

I think the series may be interesting to see. I agree that the BE sequel would probably flop, even though the starlett (Lois from Smallville) is kinda hot.

Among some of the rumored to be the Joker in the movie was Sean Penn and Adrian Brody, both of whom I think would be excellent. But Sean Penn commented that he would never do it, and I think it was mentioned because he and Jack Nicholson are good friends.

The article only said that they have their eye on Johnny Depp for the part, so they might not get him anyway. But they could very well begin shooting once he's finished with the two Pirates movies if he agrees.

About there being a sequel to Batman: Begins, the dude in charge (director/producer/writer/whatever) said that the Joker card in the end was simply a nod to Tim Burton's movie and was not meant to indicate a sequel. At the time the dude stated that if the movie went well (this was a little after it premiered) and Christian Bale agreed to do a second then they would be glad to do it.
That there screams "Uh oh!" to me. When a sequel is planned it tends to be okay, though maybe not as good as the first. But when a sequel is made just to beat the subject matter to death and milk it for more money it usually doesn't do too well. I leave that statement open, because I know there are cases where that isn't true and in fact the sequel was better than the original.

Anyways, continue gentlemen.

Batman begins was good in parts, and bad in others. I really didn't like the whole evil ninja thing. Wtf was Qui Gon doing there anyway? :p

I agree that a Batman Begins sequel will probably bomb, unless they do everything right. Which is highly unlikely they won't, but we'll all probably waste money on it anyways.
As for Butterfly Effect... I wasn't crazy about it in the first place. Unless they do something other than a rehash of the first, I doubt it'll be successful either. But a TV series? That's taking ti a bit too far...

It probably wouldn't be too good, but Johnny Depp as The Joker would just pwn.
