Chess
« on: February 04, 2006, 03:35:21 AM »
Alright, since I like Forum Gaming so much, I figure it's time I did something to promote it. So, I'm setting up some chess stuff. Basic rules of the game apply, advanced rules (like castling) are to be explained to the opponent (just in case they don't know about it), and any special rules (like any pawn that reaches the back row becomes a queen) are to be decided upon before any game starts. Post your name and any (whole) number between 1 and 5 (one being n00bzorz, 5 being pwn 4ll joo n00bz) in order for opponents to be accurately selected. When you post your move, please clearly mark what piece you have moved (try drawing a red arrow) and follow the key as well as possible. Post any legitimate, constructive suggestions as to how I can improve your experience. The board, key, and pieces are below. And no, I will not explain the game to you, so don't plan to play if you don't know (or plan to know) the game. And please, don't lie about your skill level. All games will end as a default if no moves are made in 10 days. I will be keeping a record system showing wins, losses, ties, defaults, and my percieved skill level of each player as accurately as I can. And for the sake of keeping things as unjumbled as possible, please do not challenge someone already in a game and delete posts 5 days or older (excluding the active play). Have fun!

Players: ------------WINS-----Losses-----TIES-----DEFAULTS-----SKILL

6. Noobpwner:------------------------------------------------------------3
7. RotD:--------------------------------------------------------------------3
8. Spike21:----------------------------------------------------------------2

wow, I was thinking about doing this only a few days ago, but then came the thought "this is way too nerdy for anyone to want to play"

But yes! I will.

We'll start whenever anyone's ready, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow to see how many others want to play. Oddly enough, I too thought about this a few days ago, but I didn't start the thread because I was thinking about how it would work. And don't feel bad if you're a 1, there are sure to be other 1s soon, and who knows, mebe you'll go up in the ranks based on how you do. Remember, these are perceived skill levels. I prob'ly won't stay a 3 for long, since others are sure to prove me wrong. And I actually was thinking about some other games, but I figured chess would be the most fun. Well then, tomorrow, I'll see how well my setup goes.

Well, I´m pretty good at chess...But I always end up losing 75% of all the times... So I guess that I´m a lvl1 ChessNoob...

Anyway, why don´t someone create real pices? Instead of letters, maybe we could make our own pices just for fun.

Example. My pawns are moogles, the knights are chocobo riders, and my bishops is summoners, the castles is two Armstrong, the king is Kuja and the queen is...um...Garnet?

Well if we could get some sprites small enough for the squares or maybe just a picture with a frame it would be more fun...And you should know who are playing against who.

I disagree with custom chess pieces.
However, ordinary ones would be better than the letters.

Alright, I'll get to that. If anyone has any that might work just as well, please submit them. I'll use whichever look best and edit them if I need to. Oh, and the games will start today. So I'll start pairing up the first games. If you have a requested opponent, please make it public by challenging them. Otherwise, just say that you're ready and I'll pair you guys up.

The rank  thing is just how you would be at chess... like how you would be against someone.

Good call, Darky. It's not like a "Top 10" thing, it's just a skill level thing. Like Halo 2 has a level 1-50 ranking system, mine is on a much smaller scale. Anywho, here's the updated pieces and the board.

I'll give Noobpwner a 3 since he didn't give a rank. That'll be the default level.

Oh, and I have a "Current Matches" setup now. See above to see who is paired up for the first games. I'll leave it amongst you to decide who goes first.

We would copy the picture, move our piece, repost with the picture, and wait for your opponent.

I want to join.

Level 3.

I think we should each draw the board in front of us on paint and then have the other person move the piece and not have to post as many images.
