rm2k3 RTP directory
« on: March 02, 2006, 02:26:37 AM »
Heres the problem, half of the games I download don't work becuase I get errors saying I'm missing various rtp graphics such as system2c or whatever. I have all the files, problem is, I have a wierd version of the program that installed the files in a differant dirrectory than the normal version. My old version put the files in the Enterbein folder, while this version has them installed in its own rpg2003 folder in the program files.

So, can anyone give me their full path where they have their rtp files installed? Like C:\Program Files\Enterbein\etc. That way I can copy the files there and hopefully I'll be able to play downloaded games that use RTP files.

In order to do that now I have to copy all of the rtp files into the games folder, it works, but its a pain and needlessly takes up space.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

Err, my rm2k3 program + rtp installer automatically installs it to that wierd dirrectory. Deleting the files, using a system restore, or whatever, won't work because when I reinstall the files, they'll just be reinstalled to that wierd dirrectory.

Picking a new one won't do any good unless I pick the right one. When a game uses an RTP file, it doesn't search your whole computer for that file, it points dirrectly to a preassigned folder where the rtp files are held (the rtp dirrectory). I don't know what that dirrectory is, hence this thread.

So yeah, I need the RIGHT dirrectory, I can't just pick a random new one and expect it to work.

My rpg maker lets me pick directories as well, but the defult one is the wrong folder. Its just the version I have.

Instead of getting all confused on why my version does that, can you please just find your rtp folder on your computer (program files - enterbein probably), right click on the rtp folder, select proporties, and paste the path in this thread?

I don't think that the location of your RTP is causing the problem. The reason that it can't find certain files is due to your translation of RM2K3; different translators use different names for the RTP files, so when you have a file named "Heroes1", but the game you're trynig to open is looking for "Hero1", it won't register it and will say that the file is "missing", even though it's simply named differently. If you're not using it already, I would recommend getting RPG Advocate's RM2K3 tranlsation, as that's what's used by a majority of RM2K3 users (or so I believe). Of course, I could be totally wrong, but at least I tried.

All my file names are good, like I said, I can copy and paste them into the  games folder and they work just fine. I think i do have advo's version, its just that the installer has a differant defult directory, thats the only differance I could tell.

Anyway, a while ago when I had my rtp in the enterbein folder, I used to move all the differant files to some random folder and test my game to make sure I didn't use any rtp files. If I did use one, I got an error saying I was missing the file, when actually it was just in a differant location. I had the crappy version back then, and if I used rtp, a lot of people couldn't play it because they had a differant version. Anyway, that led me to believe that the directory was important. So I just wanted to test it out to see if it works.

Well, I have Advo's version and the directory is: C:~Program Files~RM2K3~RTP

I'm pretty sure the default name was "RPG Advocate's RM2K3 V.1.08" or something, but I renamed it. Anyway, it could be the RM2K3 folder being in the Enterbrain folder that's screwing it up. Maybe if you just put the RM2K3 folder in program files, instead of in the Enterbrain folder, it'll work. Also, make sure the RTP folder is in the RM2K3 one, not Enterbrain. If this doesn't work, I dunno what to tell ya. :(

BTW: I guess Charas doesn't like backslashes (for me at least, they seem to have worked for you), so they're replaced with tildes ( ~ ) instead.

THANKYOU, I didn't think it would be so hard to just give me the directory :p Anyway, I had it in a folder called rpg2003, when I installed it to rm2k3 in my program files instead, it worked.

My really old version was in Enterbein, so I thought I may have had to put it there, but I guess I don't have to :p
