Quality Control
« on: March 07, 2006, 12:15:23 PM »
Look here to know what is it I'm on about

See anything wrong? I sure do.

Hey, it's okay. Nice and generous for the guy (Maul) to draw and submit original pieces, but seriously, is he a 5 year old autistic girl?

There are useless all around.  Here's a classic example

http://charas-project.net/resources/Monsters/20081_1139140042.png
That's a monster, apparently meant to be Missing No.2 from pokemon r/b. hmm interesting

http://charas-project.net/resources/Monsters/20081_1141470053.png
this one is SPECIAL too. from the posterboy of still born babies using the internet

http://charas-project.net/resources/Monsters/20081_1140083819.png
here's a nice rip, but WHERE DID ALL THE COLORS GO???

http://charas-project.net/resources/Monsters/20081_1139136275.png
this one made my eyes bleed. i'll send the doctor bill to maul

Since when did complete resources, become kindergarten art display. Fingerpainting anyone?

So? You don't have to use them if you don't want to.

I bet Maul would admire your skill, Carius.

Warxe: It makes the site look bad, just having them there.

I believe Ghostclown once said something along the lines of:

"Even if it isn't very good-looking to us, it might be drawn to the best of the person's ability. So, if we were to reject it, calling it 'crappy' or 'a waste of space', what does that say to the person who uploaded them?"

In other words, it's not an insult to the site, it's an insult to YOU. If you have a problem with Maul's monsters, e-mail him and tell him that, but don't whine to us.

It's simple. It says, TRY HARDER. If you don't set guidelines and encourage people to better themselves, then they simply don't learn. You tell them what's wrong with their work, they'll go back and improve it.
The best artists all started out like this, but they got good by recieving criticism and improving their skills from it.

Anyway, I'm not going to contact Maul about this. My beef is not with him, it's with the lax rules of charas that do not encourage improvement, consistency or quality.

That's like saying if someone writes an english essay to the best of their ability and sucks ***, they should pass.

Well, technically, they should at least get 'E for Effort', but that's a different matter.

Well, in all your infinite wisdom, it seems that you forgot one thing:
What if someone actually wants to use those? And don't say "Oh, no one'll use those because they suck ***". Think about it. If you liked one person's work, but another person told you that they sucked and should be deleted off the Net, would you continue using it?
Just to clarify. I do agree with one part of your comment - even the best artists start out small, and with help, they get better. Perhaps that's why Maul posted them - s/he wants to know how they can get better at drawing monsters. You say that it's not concerning the monsters, but I seem to doubt that.

EDIT: And you seem to be dodging my point. If you dislike them, or Charas' lack of rules, why don't you just ignore it? Stop looking at the CR, or just leave in general.

Hey, I don't care at the end of the day. I don't come here to argue with "OHWELL LET IT BE" attitudes.

Someone can use those if they like, it's true. Or someone can opt for a quality resource, that's up to them. If you want to use that point, let's add this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v19/hydan/mybackgroundwoot.png
Here is my background for rm2k3 that I drew. It took me all of 7 seconds, and I want credit for it too.

Now, I'm going to submit this. I expect to be accepted. Why? Because SOMEONE MIGHT WANT TO USE IT

YOU NEVER KNOW

SOMEONE MIGHT LIKE IT :o

For the record, I don't like searching through CR, because I have to sift through a thousand images like these, just to find something that is useable and pleasing to the eyes.

I don't really mind leaving charas either. I don't visit charas much, but when I do, it certainly isn't to download quality resources. Infact the only reason I've ever had to visit charas to contribute something. Usually I sumbit quality rips, today I'm proposing quality ideas. I leave alot, I come back occasionly, I don't care either way.

Perhaps someone's making a low-quality MS Paint game. I know that I might use that to exemplify a point with a weird dimension-shifting character if I were making a game - they can make reality turn into some LQ sketch, they're just that powerful. But that's just me.
Of course, if you did submit it, it would be largely ignored by most of the users, but there might be the odd person who says "Hey, I can use that!". And that is why we don't have a lot of standards - even the worst sketch can be used somehow.

And I don't like your definition of "quality" - humans view things differently. As they say, "One man's trash is another man's trasure".

Stick World is not low quality in any way. It's simplistic, but not low quality. But if you're talking about the monsters he posted, however, than you're right that is the exact style I use. But I have no use for Pokemon or a picture of two question marks. :p

Anyway, I completely agree with Warxe on this issue.

EDIT: Hmm, on second thought his/her style is a bit off from what I would use. They're all kind of poorly shaped... I still agree with Warxe though.

There is a fine line between it though. Main difference is intentional, and the other is because thay can't truly do better.

On rips however this is not a legitimate excuse as there are programs out there that preserve the quality of color. And stretching the image is a big no-no as quality is lost.
