TV Remotes
« on: April 14, 2006, 03:11:40 AM »
Myself and most everyone I talk to on a regular basis calls it a remote: The remote controled device used to change channels, volume, play/stop, movies, etc... But recently while reading stuff on the internet (some other forum), I came across the term 'clicker'.

I instantly knew what they meant. But it stood out to me, as I don't hear it often. Is this a region-based thing? Is it something like colour vs. color? (That's the Canadian/UK spelling versus the American spelling for those of you who don't know) It just stuck in my mind. I wasn't worrying about it (I'm very pragmatic by nature actually). I was just curious.

What do YOU call this:

You MrMister, I do believe you on that.

I call it "Afstandsbediening" or "Zapper". But "remote" will do if I need to say it in english.

Surely remote is easier in every way in English than it is in dutch? I don't think I could pronounce that properly if I tried. :p

Ugh. My cousin used to call it a clicker, and it would drive me NUTS.

It's a remote, or a remote control. Not a box that makes the TV click!
