Star Wars: Knights of the New Republic
« on: May 03, 2006, 08:56:10 PM »
I disapeared for a little while to start working on a star wars project, but now Im back.

The project is nearing a working(barely) demo phase. That I will post asap(which could mean anything from 3 days  to 3 years) ...anyway i will tell you about the game (cuz I know yall just can't wait...yeah)

Plot:

Set after the destruction of the Second Deathstar, the EVIL sith have returned...(shock! surprise!) Luke Skywalker has reestablished the Jedi Order on coriscant, and the Republic is preparing for war.  Luke Skywalker and his apprentice(thats you)
are on a quest to restore freedom the galaxy...(YEAH!)

WARNING: The plot of this game does NOT follow the star wars novels,(though it does steal ideas from them) it is an alternetive way things could have went before the empire fell.

The plot is also largely determined by your choices, which I will explain fully later.

Gameplay:

The game is HEAVELY based in Knights of the Old Republic style of gaming, and if you have no idea what im talking about I'll explain.

CUSTOMIZED CHARACTER:
You choose who you are.  Everything from male or female to name is completely up to you.  You choose your class of jedi (sentinel, guardian, consular), the abilities you want(force stun, force push..etc.) and you choose skills(security, persuasion..etc) the more you have of a particular skill the more option and items you get.(security opens doors and boxes, persuasion gives you more dialogue options and is used in convincing people to do ...stuff)

OTHER:
Force powers, Feats, and Skills are from kotor,(though some have been removed, others added , and some changed to accomidate rpg maker)

STORY:
The gameplay affects the story.

A female character will have a different story than a male. Just as a darkside character will have a different story than a Lightside character.

Summary:
A complete star wars experience, with authentic sounds and songs, custom graphics, and an opening credit role.

Heres a list of the "special stuff" not found in ordinary rpgmaker games:

Custimizable:
Gender
Name
Abilities
Class
Skills.

Dialogue options
Lightside Points
Darkside Points
Minimum of 2 endings

Play Along Side Real Star Wars Characters:
Luke Skywaklker
Leia Organa Skywalker Solo
Han Solo
Chewbakka
R2-D2
C3-PO
AND MORE.

Minigames

And Much More......

Alrighty well if anyone is still reading this rather long post Ill just say  that with any luck the demo will be up soon which will include rough cutscenes and a basic idea of how the game works.

EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck, but shouldnīt that guy Kyle be in it too?(Just a thought...Please donīt kill me).

Canīt say to much for the moment but it sounds good.

But I do must say that having the ability to choose appearance is a good idea, and the ligh/dark side thing.

It was a little confusing for me to. There is a button on your keyboard called print screen. It should be between the numbers and the Enter key somewhere. Pressing that takes a picture of the entire screen as a Copy/Paste file. Press that button, then go to any paint program and press Paste and it should show up. If you want a cool paint program for free look up ULTIMATE PAINT in google or something.

If you wanna post the screens either

1. Use the attachment box-when you post check the attachmentbox when you're gonna post and press browse to use your picture.

2. Use photobucket.com This way is a lot easier. It teaches how to do it.

So KOTOR style means rpgmaker default system style. If your not gona follow the novels you could at least follow the movies and not have any Sith. There weren't even sith in the novels just Dark Jedi two diffrent things. The prophecy was fulfilled blah blah blah

Well, to be fair, it is his game, so he can have whatever it is he desires in it.

Personal comment - I do hope you plan to use an active battle system for this (Sorry if you mentioned it, I didn't catch it).  But, I do partially agree with the fellow above me.  You should try to add a teansy bit more customization into it.

STATEMENT:I was not planning on having an abs style.  Sorry but i lack the rpg programing knowledge to have a fully working abs rpg (the most i can manage is a shooting mini game with a bunch of bugs.

STATEMENT:Im trying to add as much custumization as possible but with the rpgmaker 2003 system every character i make hs to have a corresponding class because i havent found a "change battlechar" option.

STATEMENT: If you mean Kyle Katarn should be in the game Ive been thinking about it, otherwise I have no idea what your talking bout...sorry.

CONSULATION: You will be able to customize lightsaber color
and wearing different armor makes you characters appearance change. (other lightsaber colors are not customizable, however a few characters have diiferent clothing appearance...jedi robes, armor, normal, etc.)

POST SCRIPT: if anyone wants to help with programing or ...CHIPSET DESIGN.  contact me.
that was me marketting for a crew as much as me admitting that if you want some things done i mnay need help.  I think most are great ideas but this would be my first FULL game, though I hae been playing around with the program for about 2 years.

UPDATE: The opening is done so as soon as I finish making things neater the "barely working" demo will be up.

Changing Class
« Reply #10 on: May 05, 2006, 08:37:17 PM »
You can change classes in the battle system. You have to use Common Events. In the Monster's Party Menu press Call Common Event. In the Common Event change the class there.

Changing class in battle removes your equipment though. You'll have to use variables to memorize the equipment. This link should help:

http://www.rpg2knet.com/tutorials.php?id=6

It's to jump (Dragoon) but it memorizes weapons and stuff.

Yes I am a noob but you could respond to me too. I can help you with the ABS if you need tips.

Keep working at it.

Warning I ramble an tend to ask for help every five seconds...

Ok so here's the deal.
I decided to post the demo without the first planet do to bugs.

1st, the version of the game i have is full of bugs (this is the first time ive EVER worked with variables, and its a bit confusing.

However has soon as I add character 1's second level to my "level up" common event this very buggy demo will be available.  Please give me tips on how to smooth things out.

3rd
Unfortunately abs system is way beyond my capabilities for this game.  Cant program friends to both fight  AND use there skills.
Again if you want to program an abs system for me you can.

4th
does anyone know how to make a spell(force power) cost more or less fp(force points)  based upon a variable.

5th
Does anyone know where i could find help for a project like this, I to make this game what i hope it will be i need to be great  at

battle creation and statistics
VARIABLES
fork conditions
 and chipset creation
and I'm not.

Last (finally)
How do you post your entire game on a forum, do you have to have a site first or what?   confused as to how to get my game to you.

I HOPE TO HAVE THE DEMO UP SOON!!!!!!!!!!

To post your game, you first need to host it on a site such as sitesled.com or rapidshare.com.  Then post a link to the download here, so people can try it out.

Here are some graphics

Update, many errors fixed game requires opening and closing cutscenes before release.

Sorry fore h the long wait, but I have high hopes for this game,
Its one of the most custimizable rpg maker games ive seen(which isnt saying much, because I havent played that many)  but Im excited to see your reaction.  Please be gentle this is my FIRST demo and its a very complicated system, at least for me, but also give advice and tell me abut any bugs you find.

The demo will be up soon

p.s. I know coriscant looks like saffron city, its a temporary chipset.

Question: Is it really important for it to be abs cause aaaaahhhhhh!   Thats alot of work plus bugs
