Eh it looks okay cept for the fact that it looks somewhat flat, and the colors look too bland.  Though when i started it looked kinda the same.  I found it better to go darker then i thought cause when u go to actual size it looks somewhat better.  Though i use Paint program so what do i know.

Okkay, back on topic.

It's not bad for a first attempt, hella lot better than my first attempts.  Just be patient, keep working, keep practicing, keep getting better, and when you're able to create awesome characters sets like they're nothing, you'll feel so much better and feel like you accomplished so much, by using only your sprites.

A lesson to everyone, really.

You should shade it a bit, he looks too flat.
And his face looks a bit empty.

Friggin A, I forgot the attachment.

This is only because everyone, even I, says that people need to do/fix shading, but never actually shows them how.

I have a bit of free time, in addition to the favoritism... XD

A simple way to do it is to pick colors. This is in paint. It's just a cylinder-- took longer to write the notes on it in photoshop. Back when I used paint I zoomed in to the max, and once I had a set base color, I'd lay that down, and double click on the color that I chose to open the edit colors screen. then i'd make the color slighty darker by using the slider: you have to click define custom colors. Then, after I'm done with that, I make another slightly darker shade.

And using that, you can repeat to satisfaction.

And for lighter tints, just move the slider upward slightly, or to the extreme for a glare.

You have to factor in folds and lighting. But in games you rarely need to worry about that too much on character sets. Usually light would just be to the top. my lighting is from the direct front in this cylinder.

One warning about that, never use the a color for the background that is the same as a color used in the charset itself.  It will be see through in rpg maker.
