The falls, work in progress.

I can see your dimensions are good in this.  However, your tiles are very shitty to put it to you lightly.  Not all of them, but most.  If you can smooth out a lot of this stuff and try to eliminate the squareness and add some depth to those rock walls it would look good.  You have the shadow and dimensions down fine from what I see but it needs work.

Well, the tileset is a rip. Just from a platformer. So the style wan't mine in the first place.

Your persistence is what the world of indi games needs man. Just keep plugging at it and you'll get better over time.  I'll tell you something looks bad so you can improve. Your dimensions is really good, just work on making your maps look better.  Are you using a pre-made tile set or are you editing your own from something already made?  Basically, you're taking block sprites from the mega man platformers and trying to make them into rpg maker tiles?

The game itself is looking very good, but the maps look like Escher pictures. It appears that
you're using the wrong tiles, such as walls, to make the floor. You'd be surprised what half-an-hour's
spriting work, by yourself, could do to change this map's appearance. Have a detailed attempt
at modifying slightly to add some proper floors etc. Then try and round off the rock around the lake/waterfall
area so that it looks more natural. Keep it up!

The amount of criticism I've had myself is horrific. But in the long run, it's sculpted me into a much better
RPG programmer, designer, mapper, spriter and composer! :D

Its not a dead project! Its not a dead project!  Its not a dead project! >.>
Maybe if I say it enough it will stay true...

The thing in the right side, in the hole, wasn't there when I took the shot, but I put it in afterwards since it'll be there soon. =P  It doesn't look as good as it normally does because the rest of the shot is tinted, and its not blah blah blah blah.

Had to put the edge set seperate from the other parts, it messed with the shadeing.

Very nice work. That looks much better.

Looks good AFL. Your mapping is nice but it also appears it would confuse the **** out of people too. I would feel claustrophobic in that woods.

YES. I actually really like that shot. It could just be I like the contrast in quality compared to your prior map. But regardless, nice job, Pokecat, much better!

AFL, I like it. I hate using those trees, a lot of times they look like crap. That one looks good, not saying it looks bad. I tried using them once before and gave up very quickly.

I personally would like to see a screen without the grid, but that's because it confuses me.
Looks a lot better.

I know what you mean.  Ugh.  Some of the chipsets Meiscool has out are confusing to use, and those trees are the worst.

Thank you both. =D

Yeah, well if you look at his screenshots, you can notice some of the trees look like crap. They're blocky and their parts don't even match. For some reason, I only noticed this when I tried to use the chipset.

Meiscool may have been able to make awesome maps with his chipsets, but for someone else to use his chipsets and make anything other than what meiscool intended them for is just one frustration after another. When I found out I'd have competely event the entire canopy of leaves for one forest I stopped. No way was I about to spend four hours, per map, plugging in confusing treetop events.

Looks a bit empty, but it won't be for long.

I wonder who broke the dam?  ;)

If you guys were wondering, I edited an allready uploaded chipset of Megaman.

It was a charas default actually. I was gonna choose a frog, but once I saw this little gem... no contest.

And pokekitten, for whatever reason, I really like it for being simplistic. Though I have to say it's hard to figure out what's really going on with the building. Idk how you would solve that. There's a lot of different things you could do. Just make it look more like... a building. 0_o I know you'e going for 8-bit, but even real 8-bit games get the idea across better than this map. And the transition from one level of ground to another is okay, but could be more definitive.

I'm not trying to be too nitpicky with you, I can tell you're working pretty hard to improve this map. I'm just trying to help you achieve what you're looking for.
