A good anime series
« on: May 22, 2006, 03:45:27 PM »
Hello, ladies and gentleman, pwners and n00bs, and people in general of Charas Project forum.

I'm writing a sort of anime-story, and I want it to be really good. Of course, the best way to do that is to know, what do people want? Since you guys are 'the people', I want to know, what does a good anime need? (please, I already know about the skirts. Let's leave that part out).

PS: I'd talk about what the story is about...but I'm really paranoid with this (I'll suffer no pwnzor to steal it!), so all I'll say is this: It deals with gods, magic, demons, psychic powers and aliens. There's no 'space travel'. There are swords (katanas, to be specific). None of the main characters are 'chosen ones' or 'reincarnates' or 'half-demons' or 'Saiyans'. Yes, I'll have fries with that.

Thank you for your help.

no chosen ones... then what is it based on? random events?

even if it would sound cliche i think a lot of anime are centered on one or two or three people, how the events of the anime led them to be the main characters.

But in my animes I like action, with an akward sense of romance. If you  have seen Samurai X or rurouni kenshin, think of that kind of romance; you know it's there, but it doesnt really develop. Do not attemp a harem anime (one guy who lives around a bunch of females and how lives/deal with it) without knowing how it goes.

I also on them like some kind honorable thoughts from the main character(s), again think RK. Dude dwells on his honor for like ahlf way thru the series.

Give the rest of the characters their own personalities. Is boring seeing the same replica of person in the same anime.

For bad guys or the antigonists let them develop from the story, not just throw a bad guy in there, and if it is to be a person who's been evil for long, introduce him/her as the story goes.

Boobs, skirts and weird chibiness comes last.

Anyway, the top three anime I like are Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X (watched all of the episodes), Fate Stay Night (new series but I a about to finish it), and Erementar Gerad (finished it).

There are others but that's the top 3. Looked them up if you want to study how I came to like those three animes, I've noticed myself there's a pattern.

And I starting to watch Final Fantasy Unlimited, it's weird, but it looks like it might be good.

Ok, I´ll be serious now (but the boobs should be present anyway). I like action too....but it´s getting old. Unless it´s super original (like Naruto and Bleach), it´ll suck.

I like fun ones. If they´re fun, i´m there. Like Love Hina.
I also like the more adult ones (not Hentai baka!), like Beck. Beck is actually my favourite anime.

I´ll be more specific one I leave work >.>

No, what I mean in 'No chosen ones' is that the main character isn't something huge, like the King of the Sun or the Reincarnate of the God of Wal*Mart. He's...an alien, yeah, but you learn he really isn't that big a guy (where he's from, anyway).

Boobs, skirts, and the occasional perv-scene (and bath house incident?) Well...the guys are smarter and more mature than the guys usually seen in anime (except for one of them), and the girls aren't ditzes. So...there'll be one guy trying to peek at the girls getting changed, and two trying to stop him, and the girls will be waiting with kunais and spells in case he does show up. I don't like it when you have to resort to showing cleavage to make a good series, though. I wanna keep that to a minimum.

Any other suggestions?
(PS: I watched a bit of Final Fantasy Unlimited myself. It can't compare to the games...but it's worthy of the title of Final Fantasy. Oh, yeah!

I like drama in an anime. That's why I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop so much. Put that sort of drama in it and you're already doing better than all those Pokemon copycats.

-Avoid a dragonball Z type of thing. Actually have a plot instead of just pointless and endless fighting.

-Well, if you are going for anime, just don't overdo the whole "uber power" thing. Screaming, lightning, and force can be limited.

-I'm pretty sure people are sick of animes that ends with a character gaining more power or getting a more powerful weapon.

I think the third one falls under the Dragonball Z thing.
I mean, sure it was fun the first couple episodes. But when they came to the point they could destroy a planet without breaking a sweat it went to far.

Let the Anime Guru answer.

Action - Bleach
Comedy - Love Hina
Scientific Roboty Stuff - Gundam Wing

Others that I thought were excelltent:
Full Metal Panic!
Full Metal Panic?  Fumoffu
Full Metal Panic :  The Second Raid
Full Metal Alchemist
Trigun
Naruto
Samurai Champloo
Dragonball
Hunter X Hunter
Get Backers - (Hi Robotam!  ^_^)
Ruroni Kenshin
Fruits Basket
Chobits
King of Bandit Jing
Flame of Recca
Cowboy Bebop
Read or Die
Yu Yu Hakusho

These are just basic anime's I've watched and enjoyed.  I know several others, but these were the best of the best.  Anyway, if you need a plot summary, I can help ya out.  Just PM, E-mail, or reply to this post.

*EDIT* - Dragonball was a fantastic anime.  Keep in mind I said "Dragonball".  Dragonball "Z", was great until after the Cell Saga.  Because then it become unrealistic even for anime.  Dragonball "GT" just blew.  Everyone was stronger than everything and everyone could blow up everything.

*HISS* Evil.  Bad Kijuki.  Put away the Final Fantasy Unlimited, pull out a fresh load of Bleach, Get Backers, Naruto, and/or Gundam Wing, and never regret stopping whilst watching Final Fantasy Unlimited.

Yes, it was that bad.  Disgraced the great Final Fantasy name.

No offense to those of you who liked it.

In anime, I kinda like the sappy love thing occasionally.
And swordsman-style fighting is good.

Just no "uber-power" thing.

And make it to where the main character has a flaw.
Nothing like "Weak power level."

Like...too emotional.

I didn't like bleach; it sucked for me. I don't like ninjas, so I am an overall naruto hater, besides the whole turning into a chick thing (for a ninja art, wth) was ridiculous, I liked ranma 1/2 for that better, now that one rocked.. The first series of Gundam Wing rocked, afterwards, the following GW series they all sucked.

That's why I am now resorting to watching fresh series in japan. FFU was my roomates idea, so I am just side watching it.

I know my anime thank you very much, and very picky on them =D

You need a mix of action, an original/different style, and a good plot. Now, a good example of this is (You all know where I'm going) Big-O. It has action where it fits and is not forced in like many animes, and many help to convey the overall plot of the story, which is well thought out as well. The style is different from many animes out at the time as well.

1.)  Ranma 1/2 was ok, however, it started off sort of slow.

2.)  FFU really isn't that fresh in Japan, and I personally despised it.  However, it would appear we have different opinion's on anime, so you may like it.

3.)  Who can hate Ninja's?  Naruto and Bleach are great anime's, however they start slow.  Since you hate ninja's, Naruto wont work, but Bleach, Bleach is a great anime, you just need to give it time.  Thats why I didn't like FFU, it started slow, and stayed slow.

4.)  There was only one Gundam Wing, your probably referring to Gundam Seed/Destiny/etc.  Which I agree, weren't very good.

5.)  I am picky about anime as well.  But, it is always good to hear the other opinion.

(I'm not trying to be rude to you or anything.  Just in case you felt I was, I just want ya to know I'm not trying to be.  =D)
