It would be good if people die or get hurt I like a little reality in my anime or other wise it is just pointless I mean the point is they are not invincible they are people. My favorite of all time would be samuri seven an extemly good remake of the classic tale of the samuri who protect a village in exchange for rice. Though the one I watch had huge @$$ robots it was real the drama of the story as well as the premice was awsome. If you haven't watched it make sure you do.

P.S. Hihachi Rules!!!!!

The best thing I can suggest is to have a verry involving stroy. Story is way better than action (take a look at some of your favorite RPGs), even though action can carry the story through some tough spots. Everything I make, I work on story first. Also (despite the somewhat emo-impression stigma'd to it), death, obvious mortality, and psomewhat psychoticism is a very good way to get fun out of your work (but don't go too heavy on the second part since not everyone likes the weird stuff). Sorry if anythin I said was already mentioned, I didn't bother to read too much.

Okay, cool. I'm gonna research all the mentioned anime, and see what  I can rustle up with them. I'm feeling adventurous, so I'll give you guys a basic jist of what the story is about.

It's set in a made-up feudal Japan--it's got Samurai, and peope wear robes, but I got the silly idea to make small-skirt school uniforms that are still robes for girls (where'd that come from?)
The story starts with dealing with eugenics, in a way--a guy doesn't want half-breeds running around and ruining the pure-bloods. What's worse, he's the Emperor, who acended to power in a questionable way (mostly a WW2 reference). After that...heck...not much of an overtone...the main character has to find and kill demons that  take over people. Along the way, the party is exposed to the story of three Goddesses and the creation of Life, which ends with an evil being sealed within the Sun. During which, said main character falls in love with a Human. Some of the comedy comes from standard one-liners, acts of confusion done by an alien, and a few perv-moments.
The story will have cat-girls (and cat- guys too), sentient dolls (think Saber Marionette J, and take away the whole 'harem' setting. It's just one girl), and a fairy (as in a sprite) who follows the main character, and trys, at every turning, to hook up with 'it'.

I understand the whole "he'll destroy the whole world!" thing, so I'll leave that to the final villain. Also, the main-character, although honorable, is really light-hearted. Think of having Kenshin in his 'happy' mood, but constantly. The guy gets mad only once in a while.

And be sure, this is no Pokémon copycat. No stupid, childish, "I'm gonna be the best (whatever!) here. More rather, "I'm going to finish my mission!".

My biggest fear is that it's going to run really slow. I've got four chapters in 35 pages in.

Thanks for the help. If anyone has any more suggestions, I'll take 'em. Oh...and, like I said, I'm trying to keep the cleavage to a minimum.

Two important things: First. DBZ's big problem was that no-one died, everyone could be brought back. Sucked.

Second, like in RPGs, characters are the most important thing in an anime, so work hard to give them a reason. They need to be different, they need to have conflicts both within themselves and between each other, there will be better friends and rivals. We come here to the FF8 syndrome where all the characters were from the same background basically and they were pretty boring.

Oh yeah, and boobies. :D

If you want to know how strong should the characters be, I'd say as strong as Kenshin Himura (Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X) or Monkey D. Ruffy(One Piece) by that I mean, not strong enough to destroy a city, but strong enough to kill 10-15 goons at the same time, without getting hurt. Depending of the situation, there can even be 50 goons, of the kind that the "One-Hit-Kill" rules apply.

YEAH! I hate the "I hate strong heroes" tendency. Like, Suikoden 5 is the best RPG for the PS2 and number one, side by side, with FF7 in my RPG list. BUT: the heroe is so weak that sometimes I wish I could just take him away from the party! Same goes for anime series that involve combat: the heroe must be outstanding, cause otherwise it´ll be boring.

If you´re aiming for funny non combat anime you should aim for weak characters.

*ahem*...I guess that means I'm a fool...
(only one of my girl characters is big chested, but she doesn't appear for a while).

In retrospect, does anime really need cleavage? Look at 'Aika': Pure, unadultrated crap, all for the sake of fanservice. I quote Rukia in the second volume of the Bleach manga:
"Curse those sick b@$$$$ds back at the clinic! They're all about legs and boobs when it's muscle I need!"

I couldn't agree more. *Puts on a 'I <3 Rukia' shirt*.

My opinion, if you want a good anime you should show the world like it really is. And the world has big'uns, lil'uns and cleavage.

As much as I agree with you searching for audience's opinions upon best animes, I would personally not use this too much. The anime you create should also be what u want and love, and you should also make a choice on majority of your hates. U can't please everyone.

Brokeback Mountain won a few oscaras and that movie was HORRIBLE. Oscars does not a good movie make.

Boobs are a staple of good anime.

All men (and women), answer me this:
Did you cry after or during your viewing of Spirited Away, or did you cry? I almost did.

Hayao Miyazaki pwns all!

PS: Good idea for the 'your own idea' thing, Weregnome--that's where I got the 'japanese school-robe/skirt' idea. Problem is, last time I demonstrated a 'my idea' game, I was called an idiot, and it was called 'teh suckzors'. At any rate, I'll do that...the world needs more demons who only act like jerks!

And less cleavage--it's a staple in anime, but....is it  that  necessary? Rukia (Bleach) is flat. Kaoru (Kenshin) is normal. Sakura (Naruto) is an ironing board. I could go on, but I have insufficient anime knowlegde.
