The Art of Kendo
« on: May 23, 2006, 03:17:20 PM »
Hey... anyone else here kendo fight? I occasionally do when I go to my friend's house. It's painful, getting your knuckles busted open isn't too fun. But meh.

Oh, and if anyone could point out some sites that could help me improve, that'd be great. My friend is an awesome kendo-ist and he's too good for all of us and is always looking for challanges (to no avail). So I'd like to actually be able to at least match him someday...

I heard about Kendo but I'm not completely sure if what's the fighting style. Can you describe it shortly?

Bamboo swords and armor. Needs a lot of concentration and discipline. Beautiful martial art. Not meant to self defense though.

Yep... it probably would  be better if we used armor...

Ah, a weapon orientated martial arts style. Those pwn. I prefer my self-defense fighting style though.

Yeah, the bone cracking would cease then...But these armors must be expensive...more than the hospital bill.

You can get a cheap set of armor for about $400.

But I see not use in armor.

My friend and I used to sword fight with sticks or broom handles, does that count?

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

I prefer when they slash downward, the strike down their sword, so it gets caught in the ground (Yes, We use blades).

There's that whole thing where the sharp part of the sword doesn't get stuck in your innards. Ah well. At least someone dumb enough to fight his friend with real swords will be taken care of soon enough by said fighting.

I switch styles a lot. My favourite is probably one-handed style. You can't put a lot of power into it but you can move the sword quicker.

My friend has this one style that he always kicks someone's *** with when he uses. He hold the kendo stick with one hand at the handle and then puts his other open hand on the actual bamboo "blade" part. Anyone know what this style is called? It's pretty fucken kickass.
