Lone Wolf, here's the tribal girl.  I'll work on the boy soon if I can.  I used the RTP girl as a base, because I'm not doing original work yet, but basically the only thing left of the RTP girl is the face.

Oh, and one other thing: The back anim is opposite RTP, in the example clothes (so that the footsteps actually match the front movement).  I kept to the RTP footstep pattern.  If you want to switch, just switch the left and right panels on the back animation.

If you'd like suggestions on how to improve the look and feel of this character, here goes:

1. Hair with only two or three colors can't compare with hair of six or seven colors.  Are you trying for a tribal look that specifically needs only a couple colors (to look primitive?)?  If not, consider putting in more color graduations.  You don't need to add highlights really, if you don't mean to have shiny hair, and I think having characters without shiny hair is a good shift from normal.

2. That pony-tail holder (the blue beads) look kind of odd...not sure how to fix that.

3. Best suggestion: Unless those braids are really stiff, consider making them bounce or move as the girl walks.  For ideas, take a look at the black-haired RTP girl who has half her hair up in a mini-ponytail.  It bounces as she goes.

4. Possibly suggestion: Given the outline of the outfit almost matches that of the hair, maybe you should switch the hair a bit...make the ponytails slightly higher, or slightly lower, or not at this almost diagonal angle.  Having them overlap her clothes more would help, I think.

ETA: I made one broad assumption: that you didn't mean to have the outline be blue.  It didn't seem to fit the other colors.  I got rid of it entirely, using the other dark color, which fit.

Other than that, I kinda like this one.  And it wasn't as hard as I thought it might be.  Nice choice!

(You can "pay" me by posting something in a language other than English...even just a couple lines.  I love to hear other languages!)

Same comment on the hair...and I hope the outfit came out all right.  That was a little hard, making that much detail into a kid version.

If there are any glaring errors, let me know, and I might be able to fix them.

Anyway...hope these work for you, Lone Wolf!

Here's the second tribal boy haircut.  I animated the headband--backwards, which I posted a second ago, but, having realized that, I fixed it.  Should be the active step that flings the headband out like that.

If you'd like me to take more time getting a decent animation for that, I'm willing to.  Let me know.

Ooh, try this out: a walk animation that isn't skipping!  I haven't worked out an arm animation yet, but I did figure out that the skip is caused by the bounce being exactly the reverse of the adult animation: The kid bounces when (s)he takes a step (the outside anims), whereas the adult is lowest for a step, and highest when standing (the center anim).  What a difference a pixel in height can make!

Here's the boys without skipping, with no arm movement.  I'm not pleased with the edits I just made to the costume, but figured I'd post this as an inspiration at the least.

Btw if u want to use some of my hair creations, since ive made many, and none of mine are too RTP looking.

I don't have any skill in making charasets from larger art.  I'm just barely starting to understand the ideas and techniques behind conversion.  If you need someone to start you off with a charaset based on those pics, you'll need to ask someone else.

BUT, if you make a charaset of the adult Indians, I think I could alter them into child sets.

Here you didnt answer so i guess it couldnt hurt.  Try editing some of these hairstyles to match with the children.

Btw this bunch is all heads of female characters that i have personally created.  I tried to take of everything that wasnt hair or head related so some of them arnt complete heads. lol.  Oh and some have base templates in the hair but most are 100% ME.

Use them if you like.  Incase you want to try to get away from the RTP style hairs.  Some if not all may require slight edits to make them fit the height of children.

Wow, neat!  I like these.  I'll see about getting to them when I get a chance (my dad steals my computer during the evenings to play World of Warcraft, and I'm involved in another project at the moment as well).

If you find other interesting haircuts, ones that roughly match the RTP and would be decent for kids, go ahead and compile them to one file and post 'em.  I'd appreciate having a variety to work with.  Also, I like being able to shorten hair a bit (e.g. if the adult has a huge ponytail then I'll be able to make a shorter, more child-like version), so if you find ones that would look good on kids if they were toned down a bit, post those as well.  Thanks!

P.S. I found the neatest thing on this forum: A check-box to get rid of the profile signature.  It's very useful when the post is just a couple lines long, or when posting a resource, or when there's a back-and-forth between two or three people and the signatures have been posted once in the thread already.  Signatures are so interesting! but can be overused if you're not careful.

I didnt find those, i made those.  And dont forget it. lol.

Though u could mean find as in find in my comp or in my gallery then okay. lol.  Anyway they all are in the same style since i made em.

And that comment about the sig was directed towards me i would assume.  Ill take it off for this thread then.

Tone down, lol.  Sure go for it.  I know my hair style is really large and stuff, but i believe that the hair makes the charset.  But it looks good on regular size characters, it might even be good on tall charsets.  But we will never find that out, since poses for tall sets is nearly impossible.  Anyway the pony tail for the blueish hair is loose, while the pink and the blonde ones are tight.  Remember that when your editing.

Theres a thing you could work on for your own style.  You could attempt to make the hair sway while the characters walk.  Im usually to lazy to do that but it looks good when its done.

Not forgetting it, and sorry if I implied that.  But I don't expect that you've made all the neat hairstyles available, which is why I didn't say "if you make any others," although I certainly would like to see them if you do.

As to sigs...yours is the most obvious on this thread--but I've seen plenty more on this forum and after a time even the neat ones get annoying.  (Not, so far, that bug-eyed Tauren going "Oh rly?!" which is endlessly amusing...so far.)

And I honestly did just recently discover the checkbox--I'm not just saying that to remind you that it's there (a la "You know, I found a neat thing on my computer keyboard: The Caps Lock.  Did you realize that you can actually type in lower-case??"...which can't help but be sarcastic).

Hair is certainly the most obvious feature.  I really like yours the way they are; I'll figure out if they need to be "toned down" once I'm patching them onto the kid figs.  I'm just saying, don't be afraid to post really big hair, like even if it's taller than the kid chars themselves, because I am capable of editing it down as needed (usually).

Thanks for noting that.  It helps to have info on what it's supposed to be, because often I'm staring at pixels going, "Okay, just what is this green thing?"  Minimalist art sure is mystifying at times.

Oh, I love moving hair.  That little detail can really make a character.  I'm not good at it yet, but I'm getting there.  Slowly.

If you mean on that dark faced chick.  Thats head is based off of Katara from Avatar: last air bender.  i think thats her name.  Someone requested her, but after i did her 4 views, they never said anything so i scrapped that project.  You could take the green stuff out it really holds no significants.  Its just green beads.

If you mean the girl with the blonde hair pulled to one side.  Those are part of the goggles.  The orange parts are the lenses.
