Because it's press only and not open to the public? You have to aquire a press pass to go. And so far the only way I know of getting one of those is being a worker at a videogame news site and having one of the companies give you one. I do know that a few years ago Microsoft would give them out to all of their recognized fansites that had a decent amount of readers.

information leaks anywhere, E3 is a great source of gaming information but I personallly don't mind if it goes away.
