A few tips on making good games

Well, there probably should be a topic like this somewhere, but still.
Many RM2K games were made, but were either; unpopular/unsuccessful and sucessful/popular. Here's a few tips that would, i hope, help you on your game making.
1: Careful Planning and Time Managing.
One of the most important rules of making a game. I've made projects with RM2k and ended up throwing them away due to it's poor management and my never-fixed time schedule. maybe also due to other interests in life.. anyways, what i used to do was just focus on the main story and whatever had to come, i just made it up on the spot. i even put in crappy words whenever you talk to people.. and if they were talking about something, it would probably be basically the same thing as the other people in other towns. and also, how i made towns before was like.. bleh.. i just designed them just like that..
2: Matching Resources.
the title says it all. most amateur games end up in the dump even tho they are finished due to the lack something i'd like to call "RPG Feel". believe me, there are many RPG Critics there that take even the smallest, tiny-est errors. some of them (probably like me) don't like playing games that don't have matching sets. Like facesets, for example. Me and a friend experimented making a few RPG Demos and sent them to friends (this was like, 2-3 years ago) and let them try it out because they are die hard RPG Fans. yes, it ticked me off cuz they kept fussing about the Resources me and my bud used. but still, it was an experiment on what they would say and almost all of them (8/10) complained about the non-matching sets.
3: Patience.
hehehe another Major Reason why my projects end up in the dumpster. Due to my impatience and as i mentioned above, my non-fixed schedule.
4: Music.
When choosing a battle theme, make sure it "fits" every background you have. and also, it should give that Jumpy Song, like the one in Pokemon Sa/Ru, i believe. and also, the Boss theme should have that "i have to defeat this guy or he;ll defeat me" feel. it brings smiles to a lot of RPG Critics out there.
5: Enemies.
hehe.. now, this is one of the biggest problems. sometimes, enemies give too few gold.. too few exp.. to few whatever, and sometimes it's the opposite. it give too much. try to balance things out.
6: Start and items:
This, is also one of the biggest problems. I've played KS2 and died in the beginning of the game due to inefficient amount of HP healing items and the enemies there deal about 1/7 of your HP in the beginning. Anyways, it's like this:
Timeline: Beginning - End
Easy - Hard
there should also be some special enemies that maybe give much gold, but less EXP and vice versa.
7: Look for some Beta Testers:
OK, this should probably be one of the most important rules. Look for friends that have good and fair, but strict judgement of the game. maybe, a minority of people would not like something in your game, but the majority will.
lalala.. X
EDIT: now, since Rowan updated me on beta testers, here's who i recommend:
Alex [err.. fair, but NICE, as gary described him in the Charas Quiz thingy]
SMB
Gary [Watch out for harsh judgement on this guy's comments.. it's like.. the world's no.1 food taster.]
Cosmo
Your best friend
at least 5 would be the max. number of beta testers cuz if you get like.. 2 of the same problems from both judges (Alex and SMB probably.. and Gary to add a third, for sure), that's where you fix it. if there's just one problem that's just mentioned by 1 tester, then don't do anything about it.. if it makes sense, then GO AHEAD AND DO IT!!! RAWR!!!

off-topic: Speaking for Beta-Testers I need people to test my game and see how good (or bad) it is?: back on-topic
Nice Tips X-f3r. I myself hate games that don't have matching sets also.

A few random tips that I find helpful:
* Have a plan, then break it.
If you write a plot and then later come up with some better ideas, change the plot to match your ideas! The plot is there as a guideline, not as a set-in-stone script. However, it *is* important to have a plan in the first place so that you know which directions you want to be heading in.
* Make some memorable characters!
Too many RPG characters are very boring, especially the main hero. Where is it written that the main hero has to be a guy, use a sword, be either completely antisocial or completly annoying social, have a mysterious past, and be the one person that can save the world? Break out of these boring sterotypes! What about a main character that is a GIRL that uses a sword? How about a MAN that has a weak physical attack but can cast powerful healing spells? A wandering swordsman that is looking for more then just honor? An "innocent" character that is not a 10-year old girl? There are so many great ideas for characters, but too often games fall into the "guys fight, girls use support moves" categories.
* Make some memorial villians!
"*teleports in* I have you now! *battle* Gah! I will see you again! *teleports out*"
Sound familiar? Too many villians are just little more then roadblocks or boss battles. Put some ENERGY into their characters! Why do they want to stop you? What motivates them? What scares them? What do they want out of all this? What is their past like? Boss battles between heroes and villians are good, but battles between heroes and villians that the player KNOWS are even more epic!
* Just keep going!
No matter how bad you think things are or how boring the game is to you, you have to get through the low spots to finish a game. If programming is boring, try rewriting the script, drawing some of the characters, or thinking about the finer details of a character like their favorite food or their birthday. Games are complex creatues that take a lot of effort, and you need to stay motivated. There is always time to turn even the most boring game around.

=.=" ok, i've finished playing Romancing Walker.. IT WAS GOOD! but the only thing i didn't like about it was the Sesha bit from the White Shinobis and the mixture of languages.. but i guess that doesn't matter cuz that's not the reason why i posted again..
SPELLING!!! GET THEM CORRECT!!! =\ that would probably the ONLY thing i didn't like in RW.. even tho i knew what he/she was trying to say despite the spelling mistakes..
yeah yeah.. maybe it ain't a biggie.. but to a lot, it might be.. so if you are from a non-english speaking nation, visit this site:
