Сталкер 1 серия / Stalker film 1

Part 1 of 2.  Yes, it's a full movie AND legal.  Directed by Andrei Tarkovski, 1979, Mosfilm. Russian dialogue, English captions available.  Not for people looking for a quick distraction.  This is a slow-paced, three-hour long philosophical and reflective movie.  Lots of long shots, leaving the camera running, nothing happening.  So if you want action, look elsewhere.

This is the movie (loosely) based on the Strugatsky brothers' book Roadside Picnic.  This short story then went on to inspire S.T.A.L.K.E.R.  [Yes, that's how I found this movie.  Hush.]  The Zone is a forbidden area of wonders and dangers.  At the very heart of it, there is a room that will grant one's greatest wish.  The Stalker leads a Writer and a Professor in search of this magical spot.

[spoiler=Drinking Game!]
Take a sip anytime:
  • ...Stalker looks close to crying or otherwise breaks down.
  • ...Writer snarks.
  • ...Nothing happens for more than 10 seconds.

Take a deep swig whenever:
  • ...Nothing happens for more than 2 minutes.
  • ...If you honestly get to Part 2.
  • ...Anytime anyone fusses over Professor's knapsack.

Down one when:
  • ...you finish the whole movie.
  • ...You realize you don't speak Russian or read English.

I never thought I'd be sick of Helena Bonham Carter but when I saw her my heart kinda sank.  I imagine she's not in it much, though.
