Untitled Detective Game
« on: October 07, 2006, 09:34:26 PM »
Well, I lost all my old RPG Maker stuff. Resources, games. Yeah. So, I'm starting again. This is a 2k3 game where you play as a detective named Jack. He's trying to solve cases. The game is quite open ended, allowing you to explore The City, fight petty criminals, upgrade your weapons(You start with a revolver, and can later get machine guns, pistols, and rifles). As you explore the City, you can find clues, do quests, fight bosses, and get promoted. You can also use NRG crystals dropped by enemies to buy skills(some involving police work, others combat).

Anyways, I won't give too much away about the story, because it's pretty awesome and stuff. Anyways, I don't have much done, so I won't be posting screenshots just yet. The music will be mostly instrumental jazz, because it fits the theme I'm going for. I will probably release a demo once I get the ABS and some enemies totally up and running.

This takes place in the same 'The City' as some of my old games that got deleted, like the band simulator(Which I will eventually start again). I have some of the basic graphics done, but I have a lot of work ahead of me.

Some features:
Ring CMS
ABS
Crime solving!
 - Taking photos
 - Analyzing evidence
 - Interrogating system
 - Arresting people
Skill purchasing/levelling up system

The interrogating system I have planned is pretty cool. I have some of the coding done for it. It has a little thing above the interrogatee's head that shows how much he trusts you. An exclamation mark will appear over your head whenever you sense a lie, and you press space at that moment to gain points. The more he trusts you, the more exclamation marks will appear. When you reach certain point landmarks, you get stuff, and it will contribute to the 'solved' level of your current case.

You can take one case at a time, and once it's solved level gets to 100%, you've cleared it. You'll get previously specified rewards. There might be a time limit on some, and some quests will involve simple tasks like killing someone, or arresting someone who is running away from you.

All the maps in the game will be 500x500, to maximize fun levels, and to make chases more awesome and such. I'm going to make all chipsets from scratch. I might integrate a driving system if I feel like really going all out. Well, there's all the info on my new game. Tell me what you think.

I had an idea similar to this one. Maybe I'll attempt it if I finish Reminiscence.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this if you decide to go for it.

This definitely sounds interesting.  And I love jazz, so that's another plus in my book.  ^^  I hope you at least get a demo out, so we can play it.  :P

SCRON SHORRB!
I'm using the 'shadowrun' system DragonBlaze made for me a long time ago. Rather, made for Jenna.
You can attack all NPCs, and most of them will fight back. Since I'm lazy, children will usually die from one hit, so I don't have to code them fighting back.

Just showing off the chipset and map I'm working on.

Pity, the band thing looked really cool. I was trying to remember whether you or Desi was making it, actually.

This sounds cool too, and the jazz will give it a new spin I reckon.

Okay, that kicks butt.  Seriously.  Shadowrun was an awkward little game (novels were cool though) but your game actually reminds me of Fallout.  I definitely wanna play a demo.  ^_^

You press shift to draw your gun, and then the arrow keys move the bullseye instead of you. You press space to shoot, and shift to put it away again.

Yeah, that would be my only problem. Maybe try using the numbers to move the targeter thingy while still being able to move around. Like 4 is left, 5 is down, 6 is right, and 8 is up. That way we could just use the number pad.
