First RPGMaker map
« on: November 01, 2006, 11:47:59 PM »
Well, this is my very first map I have ever made on RPG Maker 2k3 that
meets the following:

-Serious work, not just messing around
-Custom chipset

I am posting this because I wanna get some opinions on what I can improve. I've made maps for another game, but I understand that the style and stuff can be different with mapmaking.

Anyways, the screenie is attached.

Edit: The attachment didn't work for some reason, so here's a link to the image:

The actual map is very nice looking, it just looks very static at the moment. You should add some events, such as butterflies or whatever. Anything that moves across the screen: makes it look a lot more alive.

Also, overlays are generally a good idea if you're good with Pictures. I try to only use overlays in special areas so they look more dramatic, however I see some people using them in just about every map. It's a question of style, I guess~

For a first map, it's very nice. But be warned, as Meiscool'll be by soon enough to point out every flaw in a self-righteous manner. So try to ignore his snootiness, and look forward to his advice, it's quite helpful.

Yeah don't trust Meiscool. He always makes his overlays way too visible... I hate that guy.

My first post was nearly disregarded because of him.  He just has some control issues, is all.

I love how fast this went from "My first map" to "Meiscool sucks". It's a record I'm sure.

Thanks for the feedback. Also, I've seen MIC's posts, a few actually made me laugh.

Is that why you chopped him in half while wrestling on the blades of a helicopter? And then the chopper exploding for no reason...

Hello, folks. Meiscool is not looking at this thread, so I shall fill in for him:

*Ahem...*

Your map is nice looking. Not squarish at all, and looks pretty natural. One gripe I have, however, is the slight misuse of that log in the upper corner as a bridge; normally, that is supposed to just be a Log lying on the ground, and so wouldn't normally be able to be crossed by walking over it. There's a very specific Log Bridge chip in that chipset, which you actually used in the upper part above the log, but you used it incorrectly, since it is surrounded by grass. To prevent this from happening, hold down shift while laying down the tiles.

Yeah. But it's still a pretty good map.

The map's not bad at all, one thing, I don't think you were implying this, but you're not claiming that as YOUR custom map, right?
