Your Favorite Book
« on: November 05, 2006, 10:56:39 PM »
Im lookin to read something, but have nothing in mind.

I figured making a thread for this could be usefull. A topic of conversation, and a means for us all to get a little bit smrter.
Or at least, drop the names of the books at sophistimatcated parties, and make it look like you read alot.

Whats your favorite book? Why is it your favorite? Who Wrote it?

Um I've got a few.. Memoirs of a geisha for one, it was easy to read and the details given were good. You could actually see what the writer was trying to say. Narnia was good, I've only read the first book tho <.< Teen angst was an amusing book about some boy who was a loser and eventaully found who he was in life. Um whatelse..

In the time of the butterflies was an amazing book. It was about a family who lived in the dominican republic. The daughters, four of them, were rebels who were trying to over throw the dictator, Trujillo. It also talks about the personal struggles they dealt with in their lives and  faith. Treasure in the heart of the tanglewood you prolly wouldn't like, it's some fantasy type thing. Um... Trojan war is awsome, so is Ulysses.

Flowers for algernon was good, but it's annoying in the beginnin since he writes so retardedly. Manchild in the promise land was a good book, about a black man who deals with racism, drugs, and some other stuff. I read it in the 9th grade, so dun really remember much. But I do know it was good. And the hobbit and harry potter, damn I'm so girly <.<;;

I guess I should post my current favorites.

Life of Pi, by yann Martel was the last book I read. Really good though it drags out alot in the middle. Its about a kid whos family owns a zoo in pakistan. They basically, decide to move to Canada, and while on the boat, the wreck, and the Kid, Pi, is stuck on a life raft with a live Orangutan, Injured Zebra, a Hyena, And A Lion.And then End of that one is amazing....it just takes so long to get there.

My favorite is a tie....I really like catcher in the rye. I know its clichee, but bite me. Its an awesome book. And "A wrinkle in time" by Madeline L'engeles (Kids book, but awesomly uses fantastic metaphores and representations to explain some really intense science and theology to Kids)

Fight Club by Chuck Palahnuik. Somewhat of an obvious choice.. but it's one of the few books I can read more than once.

I liked  Flowers For Algernon too. It was a good book. I also liked Stargirl, The Outsiders, and a few more but not many. I just finished  The Scarlet Letter and it sucked >_< If anyone wants to pic it up anyways, it's by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

You do not talk about that book. *ba-doom PSHH*

I'm reading Dracula by Bram Stoker, it's pretty good. The way it's written is, each part is a character's diary entry or a newspaper clipping, or telegram, etc. so the perspective keeps changing. It keeps it interesting.

Yes, that's it! Thank you. They were giving the movie all last month on HBO.

I tried reading it, but there were so many words on one page my eyes decided to cross. It was ok. <<
