Anyone have any tips to help speed up downloads? My computer is stupid slow. Even torrenting is painfully slow.

Im averaging 14-18 kb/s. Which is lame. I didnt want to google and download just anything, because that can get sketchy.

Any tips, apps, anything that anyone can refer?

Im using a Compaq presario with Intel 2, and windowsXP, if any of that helps.

Seriously....My photshop download is taking five hours.
Its ridiculous

For just speed, I don't really know.

For big downloads, I like using Flashget. It's got a more reliable downloader than the normal windows one for me. It'll pause even if Aol signs off, which happens a lot. I don't think I've had a corrupt download off of it yet.

I think it's 3 Megabytes. It did download an MP3 really fast once.

If not, sorry man.

In regards to torrenting Photoshop, I'm almost positive that isn't something we're allowed to talk about on here. TIS ILLEGAL. *shame shame*

Regardless of how plight spends his time breaking the law, there's not much you can do to see some real performance boosts besides shutting off all programs that access the internet except the download.

Well, there are some lil' plugins for Firefox. They don't do a whole lot, but it'll speed it up slightly and let you pause dl's.

Torrenting is a type of p2p, if alot of people have that file and are seeding (Allowing you to download from them.) than the faster you will download.

Say you want to torrent a very unpopular game, then you will get a slow download speed due to the fact that no one really has it for download, but if you are downloading something like Final Fantasy VII, than you'll have a 1.3 gig file in reletivly short time, seeing that hundreds of people have it, and several are seeding it.

Not to mention you also download from other people that are downloading, and they are downloading from you, which makes your internet slow down, but who cares, as long as you get your file. The host is also a seeder, if they are connected to a Bittorrent program.

Music huh?

XD

Well, for all intents....Im not using a router. Im on adsl.

My photoshop is completly legitimate. its even registered and not even trial mode-ed. By all legal means.

This conversation is not sketchy.

Even working off of 38 seeders, with bitcomet, I was downloading at 14 kb/s

Make sure that:

- You're not seeding at the same time.
- Your firewall is off.
- That your internet is tweaked correcly. You can find some some programs that lets you tweak your internet connection for better performance.
- Use a better torrenting program. I myself like Azureus.

Other things you might want to consider are, don't download anything else, don't surf the web while it downloads (it may interfere with that kind of bittorrent program), and be patient; sometimes it is just that the seeders have really [STRIKE]bad[/STRIKE] shitty internet.
