So I'm pretty pissed about this Michael Richards thing.
Calling someone names is not a huge offense.
No one made a big deal out of the heckler who responded to Kramer's colour commentary with "fucking cracker-ass motherfucker" and "fucking white boy."
Well of course not, because only white people can be racist.
The craziest thing ever is that Kramer is being SUED by these whiny feminine asswads. RACISM IS NOT A CRIME.
YOU CAN SAY WHAT YOU WANT. That is what America is founded on.
He didn't physically harm these people.
Words do not matter, it's when you take action that there is a problem.
If Kramer does get sued, it's sickening to think that there's a chance it won't get dismissed as the frivolous cash-grab it is.

So, that's my lameass rant. The moral is that name calling is not against the law. He apologized for what he did, and even though his apology was lame rambling about Hurricane Katrina, you gotta feel sorry for the guy. People are making him out to be some kind of monster. The worst thing I can call him is lazy. Being racist is just a lazy way of not having to hate people for their personalities..
And now I don't know who I love more, Mel Gibson or Kramer.

I agree fully. Its not a Crime. Freedom of speech and all that shazz.
He doesn't deserve to get sued. But hes not standing up for himself in the afterwath. Besides, Kramer's a Jew anyhow. He should just pull the race card on top of the race card. It would be like playing a consecutive deuce in crazy eights, in a wierd sort of way.

Racism is what happens when a word is restricted. Go ahead, say any racist comment you want twenty or thirty times, and it starts to sounds like a boring word, a common word, and it loses its power. It's terrible that these words hurt people in such ways, but it's worse that we restrict freedom of speech just to keep these words in check, consequently increasing its impact. A word gets its power from its rarity. think anything in the world, gold for example. If you've got a twenty pound chunk of gold, you're suddenly a powerful man. But make that gold as common as aluminum, then it's nothing special. Power comes from restriction, and as much as I hate to admit it, the only way to truly kill racist words is to allow them to become a commonplace piece of our vocabulary. Racist actions, on the other hand, should never be tolerated. But that's not what's on display here, is it?

You guys say freedom of speech like we have the freedom to say whatever we want, whenever we want, however we want. The original intent was not to have complete freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is supposed to allow you to be able to say what you want, but in way that is not offensive or contains threats or desecration of a person. There have been quite a few court cases over such trivial matters. Yes, you have the freedom of speech, but there are limitations. The clear and present danger test is one such example, though not the best.
