MIDI Album Number Two
« on: December 09, 2006, 11:59:45 PM »
I have a thread devoted to MIDIs in the Gallery Section, but this isn't the same. I like the idea of making an 'album' using MIDI tracks. It's more for fun than just making MIDIs. I've made one album before this, but it wasn't very successfull. Since then, I've been playing guitar and been in and out of a band, so I dare say my musical knowledge has expanded. I'm gonna take this album one step farther and produce lyrics for all songs, release a 'single', maybe write tabs too.

So, that's all I wanted to say. The name of the album is up in the air, so far I've got 'Blender' and that's all. I'll post the 'single' here, lyrics aren‘t finished. But I’m tabbing it up right now. Post those later.

PS: I know it doesn’t make sense to post a song without lyrics, but the song itself is pretty much done, you’re not gonna ‘hear’ them anyways... ever. lol

To be honest, I never thought about making a cover, even though it's obviously an important part of the album. I was focused mainly on the music. An album cover sounds like a good idea though.

Just remember I called it. Nice midi by the way. It has that disco kind of groove that makes it good without being annoying.

Kind of reminds me of the songs from an old game for the SNES, "Lamborghini: American Challenge."

lol, kk man, don't worry. You've got dibs on the cover.

EDIT: Okay, I've wrote up the tab for this song. Just know this is my first tab and I didn't tab the entire solo. Tell me what you think.

EDIT2: There was a small error in the Tab, this version should be good.

It's a great midi, and I loved how you did the guitar solo ^.^

The big criticism I have is that at certain parts I was thinking "Please god just get to the point  :yell: :p". It did drag on for quite a while.

However it depends what it'd be used for. For background music for a game, maybe a platformer, It'd be ideal. Listening music, maybe not.

It's pretty good, very well scored.

The sound quality of midi just irks me.

Thanks guys. Glad you like it. :)

Charaman: Yeah, the sound quality of MIDI isn't very impressive, I'm not a fan of it either.

Moosetroop: Maybe if there were vocals, it would help.

I loved it. I would actually like listen to that a lot if it was real guitars. I love this style of music, it reminds me of Czech guitar genius Radim Hlavik. I love that guy's music, its beautiful. Good job, I'd really like to hear this in live guitar. I'll look at the tabs tommorow, I have too much homework tonight.

Thanks Linkman. You don't know how much I'd love to hear it too. That's why I play guitar, for the most part, so that I can get a glimpse of what it'd sound like.

Well, I printed out the tabs and I'm gonna try learn it. I like the solo, and I'm definitely gonna find some way to play it (the whole thing ;D).

Dude, these sound awesome! I'd love to hear final real versions of all of them. :) Or, if this was where you were planning on stopping, then that's cool too, but if you planned on doing these for real with a band or something, definitely go for it!

Well, I've been waiting for a while now to receive some news about the cover of the alumb that ZKX was working on. Sorry ZKX, but I'm gonna post the album now. If you are still working on it and finish it, go ahead and post it anyway.

Okay, so here's a zip file of the album entitled "Blender", the tracks are as follows.

1.) Out of Control (2:24)
2.) Preternatural (2:35)
3.) Bloody Palms (3:54)
4.) An Old Life (2:47)
5.) Cadaver In the Closet (2:58)
6.) Last Time We Were Here (On In Six Billion) (4:41)
7.) **** It (3:48)
8.) So I Try Remix (3:30)
9.) Tremor (6:28)
10.) Underachievers (2:14)
11.) 3 A.M. (2:18)
12.) Skydiving (3:22)
13.) Paper Ice (5:52)

My personal favorites would have to be Paper Ice and Last Time We Were Here. Of course though, I like them all. The only one i'm not too fond of is **** It.

So yeah, hopefully someone downloads this. It's not a big file, so you can download it and listen to it whenever you feel like it or can find time. Hopefully someone likes something on it. lol Oh, and btw, Paper Ice was the only song I ended up writing lyrics for, so yeah, don't get too excited when you see the Lyrics Folder.

FYI: If anyone has any questions about any of the songs, feel free to ask

EDIT: The cover has been finished by ZKX.

EDIT2: I was gonna post the new download with the cover but it's too big an attatchment. So I'll just post the pic here. Thanks again ZKX.

Well, I listened to them all. Aren't you lucky.
Don't like 'Out of control'.
'Preternatural would have been much better if you'd laid notes over the top of those block chord sounds.
Same goes with 'Bloody hands', but overall I liked this song a lot. It has a lot of potential.
'An old life' was pretty good.
Loved 'Cadaver in the closet'
'Last time we were here', which I think I've already commented on, has some excellent ideas in it. Great song.
I actually loved a lot of 'F*ck it'. I could see how it would work in a band. *shrugs*
'So I try' is okay. The actual melody is a good one.
Same with 'Tremor'. All of these would have worked much better without the midi's restrictingness. The chorus on tremor is fantastic but so short ;; And the FF tributes in it are excellent and good choices :D
Ah, Underachievers, this is what I'm talking about. Notes over chords. Nice one. Like it very much.
Loved '3AM'. Wow the album's getting much better as it goes along.
Liked some bits of '[/B]Skydiving[/B]', disliked it where it was just generic overdriven guitar repeating itself over and over.
Loved 'Paper Ice', despite it not really going anywhere.

Are you allowing the use of these in games, or would you prefer them to be listen only?
