[Demo] Empire of Stars
« on: January 03, 2007, 05:09:45 AM »
Here's the demo:

Mp3 version ( I recommend this one, although it is big 80mb)

midi version ( not as good of a music choice, but much smaller 20mb)

Here's some screenshots:

Here's the story:

The Reznoria Empire expanded into space with no opposition, no alien species to resist, no independent human colonies to contest the rule of the Empire. Humans thought they were alone in the galaxy, until they encountered the invaders (the calterans). The Calterans then wiped out and/or Occupied mostly all of the Empire's planets except for a small pocket of civilization. This is where the game takes place. You play as Rei, a cadet of the Empire thrown into a tale of corruption , deception, and civil war. My two most prominent influences guiding my storytelling on this game is kind of like a melding between Battlestar Galactica and Suikoden (The Ultimate game mwahahah! jk)

The Story is about 30% done, and when the demo ends, the civil war is just starting up, the aliens haven't swooped in yet (for the second time), thank you for playing and i hope you enjoy it. Give me feedback about it and tell me what I need to work on, I realize my game is a work in progress. And note: I AM A TERRIBLE SCRIPTER/Programmer. I know next to nothing about how to use these programs, my only talent is photoshop, so try to enjoy it atleast. My game is about story so try to focus on it in that regard. I can't make a custom menu, I make half assed custom chipsets, and most of the people Ive showed it to like it so far. you can rate it if you want to, I'm fine with that. Thanks a lot!

GIVE IT A SHOT!

Oh, when you get to the end, you'll know it, because it will tell you in the game. Thanks for playing

It's not that bad actually, but just something bothered me:
The stars panorama! It's just a black background with white stars on them. You should make some stars bigger(not all stars are as big!) and perhaps you should put some planets in the background if possible.

I didn't play the demo out yet(I'm stuck at the Glin Outpost, I have to search for clues), but I like it so far. The musics are good, the graphics are indeed custom made but there are just many things missing. Like in the forest: bushes, flowers, rocks, butterlfies...?

The battles could be a little bit more exciting though, try to put in some more enemies than just thiefs.

The story is good as far as I've played the game(I also read the story you wrote).

So, all in all, keep up the good work, but mind the details!

Ive still got a couple of the REALLY IMPORTANT mp3s in there, but most of them are gone for midis (I have two versions). The mp3s that I left in there I felt were crucial for the emotional moment of the game.

Try This

This is assuming you have Broadband.

Try getting an MP3 to Wav Converter. Then when the MP3s are Wavs, use your computers Sound Recorder program to increase the tempo. Then, put them back in the game, and play them with the bass all the way down.

I think that will shrink some of your MP3s to half-sized Wavs. I could be wrong...

I try to stay away from anything bigger than 14. I might play your game though if I have the time. I've got dial-up.

Here's an MP3 converter.

You're very wrong. WAVs are these huge monstrosities of files. Sure, you can compress them, but that makes the sound quality horrible.

Sure Wavs are humongous, but there are plenty of wavs to compress them while having them sound good. This the only way that works with RPG Maker though. Sucks doesn't it?

Well, the mapping could use some work, as could the party-enemy stat balances.

But I'll give it two thumbs up just because I'm about 82% certain that the theme music is from Firefly. I'll give the soundtrack a listen in a bit to confirm.

EDIT: My bad. It sounds A LOT like Out of Gas-Empty Derelict, but it's not quite. May be from the Serenity OST though, so I'll give that a listen.

Did you like the story? That was my main focus on the game, especially toward the end of the demo. From that point on, its becoming much more story driven.
