Winning, against the odds.
« on: January 31, 2007, 03:37:09 PM »
Have you ever won a contest, raffle or drawing? Have you ever won a game of bingo, or scratched a winning lottery ticket? I'm sure someone in charas has got lady luck on their side.

I won a contest from a forum for a free 2000 point wii card today, it wasn't one of those stupid banners, it was a contest to get members to join their forum, naturally I signed up, got friendly with everyone, and won, for the first time in my life.

What's the most luck based thing someone has ever won?

I got a 2nd position in a school literature contest. Some soccer cups at school also, but only 2nd and 3d positions...

And I don't remember anything else.

...Nothing....actually, my luck isn't all that great, and if something good happens, something bad'll happen to balance it.

Got a laptop? No internet for a while.

Got Okami? No time to play it.
 etc.

You guys realise that Apex is talking about games of chance, right?  Soccer, chess, and writing take skill and very little luck is involved.

Anyways, I win those Bingo Lottery things all the time, but only the amount you pay to buy one.  Those are common as they're supposed to get you hooked on their product. A "I keep on winning! *buys another*" kind of thing.

I've won a subscription to Nintendo Power,  and   a     basketball       hoop. From sweepstakes type things.
$200 from an instant lottery ticket.

At our Senior Party I was play roullette and I placed everything I had on 27, trying to go out so I could go play something else and the ball landed on 27. The lady working the roullette table had to open a brand new package of higher dinomination chips. Hahah. I ended up winning over $500,000. It was funny because it was fake...and also unfunny for the same reason...

I don't win things...ever. Only times I've ever win something I have to work my ass off to get it.

I myself haven't won anything too big, but my Mom won $20,000 on a scratch off around 7 years ago, and $5000 on state lottery about two years ago. The $5000 went towards Christmas, bills, and a vacation for her and my father to Key West for a week, but the $20,000, $13,000 after taxes, went almost entirely to bills - that $20,000 saved us, because we were deep in debt back then, almost to the point of living in a motor home.

As for awards earned, I've gotten 1st place in a few programming competitions and various academic commendations and such.

My sister one won 100 dollars in an online survey where a number was randomly chosen. If it was the right number, the person would win 100$. Yep. That's what happened. Never really happened to me at all. I'm not luckeh.

I aways get something when I go to bingos. Sometimes more than one prize.

Heck, once I got a blender, a coffee machine, and I almost got the bicicle, only for one number.

 So, yes, I'm very lucky.

I have never beaten the odds.  Odds are there for a reason, and they're always very low odds for me.  Most of the things I have won with determination and hard work, never luck.  Everything I have won can be rationally explained.  Our cross country team pulled off our first win overall in 10 years.  This can be explained because we worked harder than the other teams.  I buy a scratch and win.  I got three almost wins, but no dice.  I beat my brother in monopoly, he got tired and started handing me $500 instead of $5.  I play 50 matches of bingo in school with 15 students.  I won the pity prize, the leftover cookie.

Hooray cookie!

Back a few years when I still went to art shows at a local camp here, I entered the raffle for a painting, choice from two, both worth 600$. Was surprised when I won one of them, it's still hanging in my bedroom, in fact.

Also, at my college orientation I won some gift certificate to Curry's (An art store here), not to mention I won the bigger prize--a brand new MP3 player which has lasted almost the whole year. ^_^

I won $4 on a lottery ticket the other day. Other than that, I don't really win anything, I'm just a very unlucky person when it comes to luck... That didn't make any sence did it?

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN
