Mod Tryouts
« on: February 01, 2007, 01:29:29 AM »
On account of my supreme awesomeness, amazing disposition, and good behavior (mainly the last one), I have been promoted to Global Moderator! I'm sure you're all very happy for me.

Of course, making a thread solely for congratulating myself is uncouth. That's why this thread has a second use - the sign up thread for moderator positions! There are three forums that need mods, or, more accurately, two mod positions to be filled:

All of All Moderator - My former position. An All of All mod needs to be familiar with most of the community. It helps to be well-liked, but that's hardly going to be the determining factor. Rather, a respect for the rules and a good head on your shoulders is something we're looking for. AoA mod has to watch out for flaming and trolling and take appropriate action, but at the same time not be so strict that no one enjoys posting. It's balancing these two that makes AoA one of the hardest forums to mod.

Tutorials and RPG Programming Mod - These forums are similar enough that they are going to have the same mod (Only exception being if the person we pick is extremely opposed to being mod of both and only wants one). To be mod here, you have to have a good knowledge of RPG Maker. The principle role of the mod in these forums is to help people with their problems, although you also need to control anyone who causes trouble in your forums. You need to be willing to give helpful advice to most people, and not be an *** about it if they're asking a common question.

You can apply to one or both positions, but you can't get them both - you're going to be chosen for either AoA or Tutorials/Programming, so if you apply to both remember that it's our choice which one you get.

Try to explain why we should choose you for the position you want -  if you say, "I want to be mod of either one because I'm well liked," your chances are lower than if you explained how you've helped members and gave a few examples. Anyone can apply, but only two will be chosen.

Let the games begin!

I'll apply for Tut/Programming. That's one of the forums I'm generally helpful in, and I do have a good knowledge of RPG Maker. I've also made quite a few tutorials, but my two most recent ones got deleted by someone :P.

BTW, congratulations on the new posistion.

Cool, Global. I'd like to try out for AoA. I'm pretty good at keeping a level head and keeping the order of things. I hope that explosion in the Warxe trial won't veto me out, I was having a shitty week and that confession blew the cap off my usually low-pressure temper canister. In opposition to me, I must state that I'll be a little busy for the next two or three weeks (and prob'ly from time to time after that) with real life stuff, and that I tend to take sides on things that affect me or my way of thinking, but I try to show a respectable side when I have a job to do.

And besides, if I'm a mod, I won't be able to pull my usual annoying **** without punishment... Or at least not without minimal punishment. :p

I'll try for All of All. I've handled Test & Welcomes awesomely. It's time for an upgrade. Ya know. I've been fair and kept a level head.
I'm a bad dude but I moderate well.
And I've been extremely loyal to Charas for 4 years.

I'll apply for Tutorials and RPG Maker Programming.

I have a good knowledge of all things RPG Maker, so I can help out with people's problems and post some tutorials.  I'm overall a nice guy and have a high tolerance level, so I'll help people and be patient with people having trouble.  I've been around since early 2004, so I know the place and how things are done.

I'm on almost everyday here, whether it's to lurk or post.  So I'll see what happens and I won't let anyone be an idiot in my respective forums.  Plus, I'm known around here and I don't think anyone dislikes me.

And finally, congrats on the position, Osmose!

If no one else meets your liking, I'd happy to be All of All mod.

I know I'm not here a lot, but that'd change

(won't be surprised to not be chosen)

I've been an All of all regular for (at least some of) 3 and change years and right now am in very strong approval of how the board is being run and feel I would fit in well with the system.

I think you would make a great mod if you become more active like you say.

<3. We've had our differences in the past, but you're a cool guy. I'm here everyday, I just don't post often.

First, congrats to Moose. He's been working well on the staff and has helped out with a number of problems when they pop up. The appointment is mostly ceremonial; he's had a lot of authority around here anyway, at least in my mind.

About the positions, yeah, no public elections this time. They're good fun but a bit tiring, and I don't know about you guys but I wouldn't mind a bit of normalcy around here. Even so, the positions need to be filled and I'm not sure who should get what.

In the next couple days, after everyone is done signing up, I'll be looking around, talking to the rest of the staff, and getting feelings on who seems to be able to do a good job. I'll try to keep my personal feelings out of it and focus on the facts. Hell, even Meiscool, whom I said sometime last year would never get a mod position while I'm admin, will be seriously considered based on his merits.

I am taking this seriously. The staff probably is taking this seriously. The rest of you can take this as unseriously as you want. Feel free to campaign in any non-annoying way possible. I might as well say it right now; I really like the propaganda aspect and that will probably play a small but existant factor in who gets the job. Mods need to be fun too.  ;)
