Microphone Troubles

I have a good microphone that one would use to sing into and such. It plugs right into the computer, but never records anything. I've tried many things but nothing seems to work. What do I need to do to get this kind of microphone to work.

How does it plug into the computer? Thorugh a USB port, or just an ordinary jack?

if it's a jack, make sure it's in the microphone jack and not the speaker jack.

Other than that, I suggest looking up forums with members havijng the same problem.

It plugs right into the microphone jack, and yeah, it's in the right one.

EDIT: Is there some kind of program or software I need?

If it's anything like the cheap microphone that comes with Windows that I have...

...Did you use set the Volume Control's Microphone volume up and click on the checkbox?

No, I went out and bought this mike. But yeah, I already tried all those volume controls, starting with microphone, I got nothin'.

How exactly do you plan to record something without software?

Well see, I'm very recording illiterate. For the past year or so I've been using whatever I could afford or get my hands on. I went out and bought a mike, jsust the mike. I had a shitty mike that was used for talking on IMs, but that wasn't cutting it for what I wanted to do. I'm tired of crappy mono recordings. I realize now I can't get stereo with Realtek AC97 Audio. Or maybe I can, that's what I'm asking. Do I need a new sound card or somethin to use the mike? I have a nifty little program that records good sounds and can mix them, it's called Magix studio and I paid a pretty penny for it.

So, if that clears up any confusion, any ideas?

Try the Windows Sound Recorder thing.  It probably won't sound as good, but w/e.

Also, if your mic has a switch, make sure it has its phasers set for 'FUN'.

Windows Sound Recorder isn't bad, but why use that when I've got something better? Also, I have no idea what 'phasers set to FUN' means.

LOL. Your problem all along... was the mic was off? Damn..

lol, no, he came on and told me to try plugging it into the jack and turning the volume up in 'volume control' menu on the 'In Line'.

Wouldn't that be a bitch if that was my problem? lol
