Metallica had it for a bit, so did Megadeth and Syphony-X. But you guys don't know who Symphony-X is, do you?

What is that supposed to mean? I'm a big Offspring fan! I'm just a tad quirky.

Yes, their new album comes out the 26th of this month. I would definatly say Michael Romeo has the pick of Destiny. Jason Becker did have it, until his unfortunate diagnosis.

Plus, Offspring sucks.

Uhm. Playing guitar. And Pokemon Yellow and Blue.

And I'm sorry, but Offspring is just gay. They have some Ok-ish (even some hard) riffs, but still.

Yeah. Pretty much anything complex or technical, I like it. Anything else... well, ya know, anyone can strum a few power chords, drop a bass line, or come up with pretty drum fills. And singing isn't a special talent, anyone can do it with practice. Mediocrity just doesn't interest me.

Then I have to deal with mediocrity within virtuosity. Two prime examples are Rusty Cooley and Theodore Ziras. Rusty is a badass guitarist, but when it comes to composition and structure, there's really not much to speak of. Ziras may be one of the fastest alt/sweep pickers I have ever seen, but most of it's emotionless shred (not that I don't appreciate it from time to time...).

Thankfully, not everyone's like that. Steve Vai because has very unique style. Jason Becker makes beautiful compositions. I'm also a fan of classical. But not the slow soft stuff. I mean like, Paganini's Caprices and things like that. Anyways. Yeah. String instrument virtuosity = good.

I gotta disagree entirely with you Des.

I hate Virtuosos. They're all about showing off how good they are, when music is really about melody. I'd much rather listen to Nirvana, John Lennon, The Offspring, etc. then guys like Vai and Satch sit there and jerk their guitar for an hour.

Yeah, but that ends up in the "taste" thing...some people like the bangbangbang and others like the prililililililililililololooooonnnnn!

Those are not virtuous and virtuous, respectively o.O

I like seeing good technique, of course, but it's not just that: I need good playing and feeling. That's what's good about blues: it's all about being good and having feeling.

I don't like robots like Satriani. I don't like trashies like any emo punk poop band you see nowadays (that are all about emo...tion -.-)...

I'm into balance. And whomever archives balance with greatness, gets the Pick of Destiny!

Music's about sounding good. It's not about having complicated solos or ear drum-smashing thrash sounds, it's about having a melodious attraction. A great musician doesn't necessarily make good music, and a good song doesn't necessarily require a good musician. But having a good musician helps. Matter of fact, I think you're a better musician if you can make good music from simple play techniques. That's talent.

But enough about that, who's your pick (of destiny)?
