Need events to stay in new location.
« on: August 04, 2007, 07:10:27 AM »
After all these years I've forgotten quite a bit of my progamming capabilites. So I'd like to know how I make my events stay in their place after they have been moved using the "Move Event" command. The case is a bush that needs to be put aside to reveal a secret entrance intro the mountain wall, but the bush pops back into place when you've been inside the mountain and exits it. Thanks ahead ^^

can't do exactly this, but there is something easy and similar.

Bush location 1
Page 1:requirement: variable is equal to 0 object:bush command to move it aside=variable+1
Page 2: requirement variable is equal to 1 object: nothing. completely blank except for requirement
Bush location 2
page 1 Requirement: variable is equal to 0 object: nothing
Page 2: requirement: variable is equal to 1 object: bush

that'll do it. and if you want to push it back for whatever reason, just add a comand to the second event that subtracts 1 from the variable.

hope this helps

An easier way would be activating a switch once you move the bush away and give the event have a second page that exists of nothing.

Under Hero
And then it should look like nothing at all.

So if the switch is activated then the event will look like nothing and you can pass above it.

Then create an event next to that one that will look like the bush if the switch is activated. This creates th illusion of the bush being at its right place.

So just two events, each one with two pages, one that looks like the bush when the switch is not activated and one that does when it is.
The one that looks like the bush will look and act like nothing when the switch is on, the other one is nothing and acts like nothing when the switch is not activated.

Okay, I came a little further now with your help Vlad. Decided to go with a switch instead of a variable which works fine. Made a battle animation that shows the bush being moved, but problem now is that the switch needs to go off "after" the battle animation has been shown, any option that can make it do so?

Take a watch and time the battle animation. Use the "Wait" command and put in the number of milleseconds
(Eg. 20 milleseconds = 2.0 seconds)

Just set it to 2-3 milleseconds after the animation has run. Have 2 events, the tree and then a two-page event, with the tree graphic for the second page. Leave the first page blank, and then use a switch called "shrubismoved" or something to turn on the second page. For your first tree, have one page and have a switch called "shrubnotmoved". When you use the battle animation, after the wait turn off "shrubnotmoved" and turn on "shubismoved." that should do it.

I hope this works, I did this without rm2k3, just by experience. If you don't understand, I can show you through screenshots.

I understand completely, and had already made it like you're explaining. But is there truly no other way than to time a "wait" command?

Do that, but when moving the bush, use a "Move event" command consisting of "Move bush (In whatever direction)" and then activating the switch.
