[Demo] Paradise Blue

Paradise Blue

Backstory
In the old Island of Azulea, the natives are pushed away from the land they once held. The ones who conquered the land have settled and created a new civilization on the Island. Now that the King is near death, there are 2 groups that are fighting for the throne.

Characters
4 Guards: You play as these guards. Their gender/class/name can be chosen. They don't have a speaking role.

Patrick: A 13 year old Paladin in training. He's optimistic and wishes that the 4 guards would join their cause willfully instead of being paid for it.

Amelia: An 18 year old girl who tends to be rather mean. She's an Assassin, but her task is to assist Abigail in acquiring special Tokens.

Neil: A 23 year old who is in charge of the schedules for the workers in the 2nd floor of the Castle Santelha. He's outgoing, and can be cruel to some people (Particularly the new ones), but generally bothers everyone.

Borgliddle: A 32 year old fat guy who is a thief. Or at least tries to be one. Fails frequently, and makes mistakes often.

Lord Javier: A 25 year old ruler of Marsall. He cares about women more than he does anything else. He tends to exploit both citizens of his town and the government for his own gain.

Evan: A 29 year old Archer. He's assigned to be the assistant and advisor to Javier. He would much rather be the one ruling Marsall, but he doesn't have a say in that. He does like assassination missions, though.

About the game
You can change your class once you beat the 1st boss. Before then, you can choose which starting class you want your characters to be, out of 6 of them (Fighter, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, Thief, Monk). You gain ABP after a battle, so once you get enough ABP, the character can learn an ability from their class.

There are 10 quests in this demo. You can finish 9 of them, "Capital City" is unable to be finished at the moment.

You can hire people in the towns to help you in battle. Some may use abilities like boosting your magic power, walking speed, letting you attack first, and more.

I hope you have fun! Let me know what you think of it. If you find any bugs, let me know! It's stand alone so you shouldn't need RPG Maker or the RTP to run this.

Wow! Just... wow! I haven't even finished the first dungeon, and it's AMAZING! It's the perfect blend of simplicity and complexity, the style is nice a Final Fantasy-esque look never quite seen before, the pace moves along nicely and the music is excellent! I can't express how much I love this already!

Great, great job! 11/10! I only wish I had time to play more right now.

I'll download it tomarrow when I'm at school and can use their high speed internet  :)

Anyway, the game looks good, but I'm not a big fan of the graphics  :|

I'll let you know how I think of it when I get a chance to download and play it.

I'm a huge fan of the graphics. AND EVERYTHING ELSE

This is amazing so far. I'd buy it if it were complete >.>

I love the command changing and job system. It's so simple but works so perfectly! And all the graphics are perfect. And the way you did the monsters is fantastic.

I was sceptical when I saw CK's 11/10 but so far I'm gonna have to agree with him pretty much.

Wow, 11/10? Awesome, glad you liked it!

About the Kick command, the classes generally know some or all of the abilities that it teaches. So for example, the Dancer class is immune to status effects, and has both Sing and Dance. All of these things can be learned, it's to place it on another class if you feel like changing the class. So then if you learn Sing, you can have a Fighter equip it and then they could Sing.

By the way, there are 2 songs available in the demo, the one you start off with, and one you'd have to ask a bard in Santelha for. Safe song and Focus song. Power song and Requiem are not available in the demo.

Why oh why can't I log in here when I'm at school?

I did include it, Plus I renamed my RTP folders so I would catch that if it didn't work (And it's not an RTP file).

You shouldn't have the spell Bio, but Poison is available. If that's what you mean, you probably just ran into a strange RM error. If anyone can reproduce it (Cast Poison and see if it bugs for you), let me know. I have used the Poison spell in battle before, so I don't know what it could be.

Well, I rarely see a playable game around here, let alone a really good one!

I've only picked out a few flaws that I think may sink it to only a 10/10. :P It's really stupid, extremely nitpicky stuff, but it's stuff that could make the game flawless should the problems be fixed. Well, first, my 4th Guard is a female, but the sprites in the (stat chart? I can't really remember what it's called, but the class level and ABP info screen) were the male sprites. It was okay though because the main sprites were female. The only other tiny thing I could pick out was some of the map eventing. For instance, you can use events to make diagonal stairs completely operable, rather than forcing the player to walk left and then up and repeat the process. The only other instance of this I found was for areas when crossing under a bridge or roof. This, too, can be fixed with eventing. You can use events that the player is forced to hit in order to change the depth of the event of the bridge or roof so that the player will go under or on it depending on his or her position.

That's about it, though. Everything else was just excellent beyond belief. I really hope this keeps going. If any game deserves to be finished, it's this one!  :)

Charas doesn't really like internet explorer or AOL or a lot of browsers except firefox. So if your school uses internet explorer, you won't be able to log in. What I do is just instal firefox before going to this site and i can get on at my school  :firefox:

But I'm sure it will. :flower:

OK, just tested the 4th guard problem. I think the problem is that it references the 1st guards gender. Since I always use all girl teams, I never noticed this. I'll fix it eventually.

As for diagonal stairs, I've been trying to get that to work for at least a week before completely giving it up. That I will not do, sorry, too much effort. Unless someone else does it for me, then I will not. I could easily have a move event on the first and last steps of the stairs, but there is a possibilty of enemies being on the stairs, so unless I block them from going onto the stairs, I can't really do that. You know, that's actually not a bad idea...

As for bridge/under building passability, yeah, I forgot to do that. I did have that in mind, just never got around to it.
