"Now we have so much power, we don't settle for a colon-dash-paren," he said. "You want the smiley face, so all these chatting softwares have to have them."

We were talking to Dr. Stansifer about this during the ACM meeting. He said, "It's a stupid article for a stupid holiday. They quoted me because the AP reporter had half an hour to finish his report and needed quotes from anyone who sounded smart."

I prefer text smileys to the graphics. Some of the charas ones are okay, but it annoys me when in other forums my XDs get turned into yellow faces.
