Master of Orbs

Lots of people here love Japan, so maybe people'll actually sign up this time.

Main Info
Players:  4
Genre: Fantasy, Japanese (both modern and old-world)

Summary: Four individuals from the early Edo Era (Yuki, Aina, Katsuo, and Hiroto)* led normal lives until they each found a strange stone orb. They soon found that situations which should have been fatal, weren’t, and that strength they shouldn’t have, they did.

The orbs, it turned out, gave them great power, and even allowed them to cheat death. This was at first wonderful, but it brought with it a great cost. Each orb would give its chosen bearer strength and power, yet, at the same time, each orb would also intertwine itself with the life-force of its bearer. If one were to be stolen or thrown away, the bearer would become weak and drained of all strength. If all were to be taken or thrown away, all four bearer would die. Finally, the orbs would reveal images of horrifying things that had yet to happen.

Unable to stand the images of terror any longer, the four left their lives behind, eventually coming together at a crossroads. For a year they traveled with each other, using the orbs to stop brutal murders and violence.

They did not realize that the orbs were only showing them carefully chosen events.

Toyotomi Juro, one of the last of a defeated clan, had unearthed the five fabled orbs in order to increase his power and overthrow the shogun. When four of his orbs were stolen from him, he became weak and immobile. His only power lay in what he was able to accomplish as Master of Orbs -the one who held the Orb of Heaven, a fifth all-powerful, all-seeing orb. Through this, and his influence over the ousted nobility, he orchestrated terrible events which he then “warned” the orb-bearers about. Using the power of Heaven, he watched the four journey across Japan, and learned about the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents.

When Toyotomi, had learned all he could, he led the four to a grove where they were arrested and sentenced to execution.

The four bearers finally realized they had been part of Toyotomi’s plot to overthrow the shogun, but it was too late. Though he did not dare to touch them while they still held their orbs, Toyotomi planned to take the ancient stones once the bearers were dead and no longer able to summon the hidden power which they, themselves, had yet to realize, and which could easily destroy Toyotomi’s guard.

The night before they were to be executed, Katsuo, the leader of the four bearers, recalled his childhood in the very court they were to be murdered in.** He remembered a legend which said if you threw your most precious possession out into the garden pool, you could make any wish and it would come true.

Knowing that he and his friends were to be executed regardless, he awoke them at dawn and told them the story. Though most did not truly believe, they all agreed it was better to throw the orbs into the pool (which fed to the lake) rather than carry them directly to Toyotomi.

On the morning of their execution, they were allowed one last request. They each asked to sit by the garden pool. One by one, they threw their orbs into the water, knowing that the action would doom them, yet at the same time offer them their only hope. As the magician, Yuki, threw the last stone in, Katsuo whispered:

“I wish we could be taken away from here.”

*

The story is set in Tokyo, Japan, 2007, where four individuals come across strange orbs.  Shortly after, strange dreams begin to plague their sleep. When terrifying images begin to appear within the orbs, the four are drawn once again to their destiny. They find themselves once again in the Edo Era- though they no longer have any memory of their life there- nor of Toyotomi’s plan, to kill them and retrieve the orbs.

And now that the barrier between times has been split open, the four fight not only for those in the Edo Era, but for those in their own time too. If Toyotomi gains control of all orbs, he will become all powerful and not only be able to overthrow the shogun, but rule the modern world.

* Names are changeable at players’ discretions
** May be changed to Katsuo dreaming about going to visit the pool, if it conflicts with the players’ version of his history.

My Character

Character Name (Family name first): Fujiwara Yuki
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Height: 5’1”
Class: Magician
Physical description: Yuki is a small girl with pale, plump cheeks, and a small, pointed chin. Her eyes are round and wide, with a light brown colour that many in her village considered unattractive, while her hair is dark and slippery.  She is thin and frail-looking with a curveless shape but delicate countenance. Her lips are often curled into some kind of a frown, even when she is not upset. Her feet and hands are small.

Physical Strengths: Natural jumper, very light
Physical Weaknesses: Very little strength, average speed
Magic Description (If Applicable): Different kinds of spells, attack, defense, and healing.
Magic Strengths: Varied ability, fast recovery, good strategist when it comes to using spells
Magic Weaknesses: Has trouble with non-battle spells.
History: Yuki was the daughter of a poet. She grew up in a comfortable country house, while her father worked at court. When she was young, she had an awkward body with long legs and arms (as some young teens have). She was always tripping and falling, and as a result was often made fun of by the other children. She began to isolate herself within her home, and kept to the habit even after she’d passed her awkward phase. Though her manners were good, her true social skills never recovered from her distance from others.
As a modern adolescent, she lives in Narita, but wakes up extra early and takes the train to Tokyo for school. Her home is modest, and she shares it with her grandparents, father, and mother.
Personality: Yuki is quiet and awkward. She is a bad communicator, and gets easily frustrated when trying to explain herself. Often she prefers to avoid her problems than deal with them directly.

Oddly enough, I picked the Japan theme because it's more popular.

but seriously, if more people would join, I'd make it western-style too.

So watcha think?

Well, if ZKX and Gemini are joining then count me in.

I dunno, adding non-japanese might screw up the story. It looks as though the main four would have to be Japanese at least.

Also, can people only control one of the four or will there be other characters?

Yupp, I'll join. But I don't know much about Japaneeses either...

But I'll try, seems worthy enough for my time.

Y'know? To make another character profile.

I'm willing to work with you guys on however you think it should go. Right now...I really need an escape lol.

Ok, so would you guys prefer mid-edo era and there are white people?

Or prefer if the setting completely changed?

Also, what's the concensus on style (control yourself, control others?) I myself have experience in both. I prefer control others (so long as people are good)...it also gives you something to look forward to- seeing what other people see in your character. Also it moves the story faster and keeps it more linear and organized.

What about you guys?

as long as you have considerate and experienced rp-ers, then controlling others is usually not an issue for me.

Well, I usually write a post where my character is thinking about following the other person and what he is willing to do in case something happens just so the other person has base to work on.
It usually ends up good since most people do not try to do crazy things with my chars. So far, the worst thing I've done is gettign into a car with a serial killer and stashed a gun for later purposes...

Well, the story and all seems great, I'm just not too sure that I'll be able to play as one of the existing characters. I never have a great purpose in RPs it seems. Would be odd to be one of the bearers.
I rather be a sidekick or a somewhat minor character. But that may not be possible.
Stick with the theme, wouldn't be far to odd if a man from the west arriwed would it? That makes him special after all.

Go ahead and take my spot if there isn't any place for another person Mid.
I'll just place my money on a secondary character.
