Freeware Fungasm
« on: April 26, 2008, 03:29:42 AM »
Basically, I aim to make a list of all the best freeware games. Fell free to post your own, with a little info and a link.

http://www.miraigamer.net/cavestory/siteimages/quoteani.gifCAVE STORY GENRE- METROIDVANIA PLATFORMER
Cave Story, or Doukutsu Monogatari, is a Japanese freeware PC side-scrolling platformer game developed by StudioPixel. It has been translated into English by Aeon Genesis Translations and will have an official translation script published sometime in the near future.

Cave Story is really one of those games that can be considered a masterpiece of game design. There are so many wonderful and classic gaming elements, that I cannot even begin to describe just one quality well enough to say “It is for this one reason alone that Cave Story is a great game.” There is just so much effort, originality and ingenuity behind this game and it really shows more and more as you play through it.

I need to get around to playing Cave Story someday. Bah.

Torus Trooper is a really fun shooter.

There's no end, I'm at level 390.

I'm at such a high level that the level select stretches off the screen. Yay.

I dont have a link, but if youre into the old kings quest point and click mystery types, the Trilby / DaFoe Manor Quadrilogy is worthwhile.  The graphics are horrid, but the poor quality makes the scary scenes even better

If you're into quiet and soothing puzzles, I recommend "Within a deep forest" The game is short (*If you can solve the puzzles) and the music (in most areas) is very soothing.

Play it.. NOW!

CORTEX COMMAND GENRE- STRATEGY/SHOOTER
A friend of mine is one of the main spriters for this. Its still in production, how ever there are free test builds available.
"Remote control bodies and machines to harvest gold and beat your competitors! 2D sidescrolling pixel graphics with an extremely detailed physics simulation make for a mix of nostalgia and surprising gameplay"
Basically, you are a brain. At the start of a match you can use your cash to build a bunker, and fill it with troops and the like. When youre done, the action starts! You can send out your brainwaves to troops, allowing you to take control! Basically, you have to destroy the enemy's brain.

Ok, so...

FRAXY
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/217/500771193_7cd1db7cf4.jpg
This Japanese game is sort of a counterpart to Warning Forever; bosses are made up of multiple parts, all of which serve a purpose, and can be blown to bits. In that sense, its similar to Warning Forever, but also allows you to use an array of weapons and ship setups, and also create your own bosses. A LOT of people seem to hate it for its small resolution, but hey, RM2K3 games also have a small resolution, right?  ;)

TORIBASH

Now here's something; a turnbased, massively multiplayer fighting game. You individually control all joints in your body; anything from raising your shoulders, contracting your pecs, or shakin' your glutes. Combine these body movements to create unique and powerful moves in combat. Then use them online to beat the snot out of others.

Heh. We had a similar west-point bridge simulator. Back in middle school technology, my team got 2nd place for that bridge building contest, which took cost and strength into account.
