Music continuing after battles?

I've been kind of wondering this in the back of my head for a while now, but never really cared enough to ask... So now I'll ask.

Is it possible to have a BGM continue from where it left off after a battle is over? One thing about RM that has always really bugged me is the fact that a BGM restarts back at the beginning after a battle is finished. I don't think I've ever seen a real RPG that does this, as most designers would like to have players be able to hear the entire score while still playing the game normally, even though it's interrupted by battles.

Thinking about it, I feel like it's either really complicated to the point of not being worth it or impossible to do this, but I was just wondering.

There is some sort of conditional branch which records the number of ticks in a song if you look for it. You could edit the song to start at different tmes with music editing software and play it from certain times. But it seems better to just keep the same BGM through battles.

If you don't have random battles, you can memorize the BGM at the monsters event and play the memorized song after the battle. Not sure if that works, though.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I don't think it memorizes the position, especially if it's an MP3. I think MP3s are the most inflexible sound file when it comes to doing anything other than listening. Oh, well, I guess it doesn't really matter that much.
