On the music stream...
« on: August 25, 2008, 03:17:03 AM »
What's your favourite lyrics (at least at the moment)? Post it and tell why it's specially good to you. Well, this song just speaks to me a lot, and it's really well written.

Quote
Protest the Hero - Blindfolds Aside

We woke up as men but tonight we'll sleep as killers
As we break the cryptic morning with a bullet and a prayer
The steel never seemed more cold and agile than life never seems less vital and fragile
With a heart that's beating louder than my own
I watch a girl they call Kezia
I watch a woman that I know
my hopes and my own future blindfolded
To atone for a sin I didn't care for, but a sin that paid my debts
A sin that fed my children and burned my smiles and cigarettes
and No one ever said that hope would be so beautiful
and no one ever said I'd have to pull that trigger, on her
I can't even still her trembling hands that were locked up by the dutiful and the obligated;
Five soldiers forever sedated with the,
"No one's responsible" psychological drama of our social justice dribble, dribble
Her tiny steps tell lies about the choice I have to make;
Resurrect a static lifetime to starve to death my own mistakes
So pull the screaming trigger and watch your carcass bleed me dry
Or drop the gun and try to shake away the blindfold from your eyes?
Drop the gun(pull), drop the gun(the), drop the gun(trigger), drop the gun.

I can tell you what my least favorite lyrics are:

"Not even salt can make your hands taste good" - No Sssweat by Enter Shikari

God damnit. I loved the song until I finally figured out what he was saying.

Pink Floyd - The Trial

Good morning, the worm, your honor,
The crown will plainly show,
The prisoner who now stands before you,
Was caught red-handed showing feelings.
Showing feelings of an almost human nature.
This will not do.

Call the schoolmaster!

I always said he'd come to no good,
In the end, your honor.
If they'd let me have my way,
I could have flayed him into shape.
But my hands were tied.
The bleeding hearts and artists,
Let him get away with murder.
Let me hammer him today.

Crazy.
Toys in the attic, I am crazy.
Truly gone fishing.
They must have taken my marbles away.
(crazy. toys in the attic, he is crazy.)

You little shit, you're in it now.
I hope they throw away the key.
You should've talked to me more often than you did.
But no! you had to go your own way.
Have you broken any homes up lately?
Just five minutes, worm, your honor,
Him and me alone.

Baaaaaabe!
Come to mother, baby.
Let me hold you in my arms.
M'lord, I never meant for him to get in any trouble.
Why'd he ever have to leave me?
Worm, your honor, let me take him home.

Crazy.
Over the rainbow, I am crazy.
Bars in the window.
There must have been a door there in the wall.
For when I came in. . .
(crazy. over the rainbow, he is crazy.)

The evidence before the court is incontrovertible.
There's no need for the jury to retire.
In all my years of judging I have never heard before,
Of someone more deserving of the full penalty of the law.
The way you made them suffer,
Your exquisite wife and mother,
Fills me with the urge to defecate! -- no, judge, the jury!
Since, my friend, you have revealed your deepest fear,
I sentence you to be exposed before your peers.
Tear down the wall!
Yeah, it's the whole song, but any single part isn't enough.

Now you're a hero (From You have to burn the rope)

Congratulations.
You managed to kill that boss, you see...
The Grinning Colossus.
You're the hero we all wish we could be!

You made it through The Tunnel.
Then you grabbed that Fire on The Wall!
You jumped up above him.
Then you burned The Rope and save us all.
You burned The Rope and saved us all.
You burned The Rope and saved us...

Now you're a Hero.
You managed to beat the whole damn ga-ame.
We're happy you made it.
But how are you gonna to spend the rest of this da-ay?
Maybe watch a video.
Maybe press refresh and start again.

Now you're a Hero.
You managed to beat the whole damn ga-ame.
We're happy you made it.
But how are you gonna to spend the rest of this da-ay?
Maybe watch a video.
Maybe press refresh and start again.

Yes it's over now.
We didn't want to make a longer game.
This is it, I swear it's true.

Now you're a Hero.
You managed to beat the whole damn ga-ame.
We're happy you made it.
But how are you gonna to spend the rest of this da-ay?
Maybe watch a video.
Maybe press refresh and start again.

Radiohead - No surprises

A heart that's full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won't heal

You look so tired and unhappy
Bring down the government
They don't, they don't speak for us
I'll take a quiet life
A handshake of carbon monoxide

No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
Silent, silent

This is my final fit, my final bellyache with

No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises please

Such a pretty house, such a pretty garden

No alarms and no surprises (let me out of here)
No alarms and no surprises (let me out of here)
No alarms and no surprises please (let me out of here)

Also, meis, I love enter Shikari. I'm wearing the 'sorry you're not a winner' t-shirt right now :p

Yeah, Radiohead has some awesome lyrics...pretty down stuff. I love "Do the Evolution" by Pearl Jam, but that's old...

And Egnio...that's some nerd song, ain't it?

Down, Down, Down to Mephisto's Cafe - Streetlight Manifesto

I just love this song. For many reasons why.

If I were you, I would take this as a sign
Believe it's true, we were never meant to fly
And I owe you, I know you more than anyone alive
And I will not let go

They will not remember this song
No matter what we do we'll be wrong
They will not remember this song
No matter what we do we'll be wrong

I can't seem to see the seal we're breaking
I can't seem to see the seal we broke
I refuse to recognize your views
Someone shouted "Everything's for nothing"
Somebody shouted, "All is lost"
But I can't buy that nonsense too.

Way back when the prophecies began
Do you think they really had a master plan
Or were they merely writing fables, stories?
I don't know but it has occurred to me
The punishment that they threaten constantly
It's only real if they could just convince me.

We're going down, down, down to Mephisto's Cafe
Down, down, down to Mephisto's Cafe
we're going down
And the gears will spin and the sinners sin,
but at least we'll give them hell
And the righteous few will spit on you
so bid them all farewell
We're going down, down, down to Mephisto's Cafe
We're going down (Right?) (Right!)

So **** the flocks of sheep that keep amassing masses
Asses being led so far astray
And I won't claim to believe the things I read
Black books or agenda magazine
I'd rather see in shades of gray

If I were you, I would take this as a sign
Believe it's true, we were never meant to fly
And I knew you when you were you
Before they twisted all your views
Before you came unglued.

We're going down, down, down to Mephisto's Cafe
Down, down, down to Mephisto's Cafe
we're going down
And the gears will spin and the sinners sin,
but at least we'll give them hell
And the righteous few will spit on you
so bid them all farewell
We're going down, down, down to Mephisto's Cafe
We're going down (Right?) (Right!)

Now everybody's telling taller tales
And I don't know who to believe
Ok, if your father really loves you more
What about the other families?

Finally, I met a man with kindness in his eye and fire in his heart
He said you'll never have to choose a side
It's rewarding but oh, the road is hard...
They broke him wide open
Like a dam and a cork that's holding everything inside
You can play the role of rebel
Just be sure to know your wrong from right.

I remember it was years ago
You know I still count the days
You and I had quite a ways to go
I never once heard you complain.
And you said, "Don't crack, because you might not make it back
And if you do you will be alone and you can't live like that"
Well I know when I'm wrong and I sure as hell ain't wrong this time.

We're going down, down, down to Mephisto's Cafes.

Particle Man by They Might Be Giants

Particle man, particle man
Doing the things a particle can
Whats he like? its not important
Particle man

Is he a dot, or is he a speck?
When hes underwater does he get wet?
Or does the water get him instead?
Nobody knows, particle man

Triangle man, triangle man
Triangle man hates particle man
They have a fight, triangle wins
Triangle man

Universe man, universe man
Size of the entire universe man
Usually kind to smaller man
Universe man

Hes got a watch with a minute hand,
Millenium hand and an eon hand
When they meet its a happy land
Powerful man, universe man

Person man, person man
Hit on the head with a frying pan
Lives his life in a garbage can
Person man

Is he depressed or is he a mess?
Does he feel totally worthless?
Who came up with person man?
Degraded man, person man

Triangle man, triangle man
Triangle man hates person man
They have a fight, triangle wins
Triangle man

I like this song because I always feel like person man. I feel like there isn't anyone that really cares about me, and I've just been abadoned.

Haha, no. Seriously though, I make a point not to relate to a song I listen to. Otherwise I feel like I'm a tween kid listening to Linkin Park.

You make a point to avoid that? I just never did that because all the songs clearly weren't about me or anyone like me.

I dont really relate to songs.  Ill think lyrics are cool or well written, but relating to them?  Not so much.  Music just has to be fun to listen to for me.  Sometimes I'll enjoy a deeper song, but nothing big.

Although...

"YOU WERE SCREAMIN AT YOUR MUM AND I WAS PUNCHIN YA DAADD"

Is some pretty intense stuff.

The Young Knives singer is insane haha

Please, leave all overcoats, canes and top hats with the doorman.
From that moment you'll be out of place and underdressed.
I'm wrecking this evening already and loving every minute of it.
Ruining this banquet for the mildly inspiring and...

When you're in black slacks with accentuating, off-white, pinstripes
Whoa, everything goes according to plan.

I'm the new cancer, never looked better, you can't stand it.
Because you say so under your breath.
You're reading lips "When did he get all confident?"

Haven't you heard that I'm the new cancer?
Never looked better, and you can't stand it

Next is a trip to the, the ladies room in vain, and
I bet you just can't keep up with, (keep up) with these fashionistas, and
Tonight, tonight you are, you are a whispering campaign.
I bet to them your name is "Cheap", I bet to them you look like shh...

Talk to the mirror, oh, choke back tears.
And keep telling yourself that "I'm a diva!"
Oh and the smokes in that cigarette box on the table,
they just so happen to be laced with nitroglycerin.

I'm the new cancer, never looked better, you can't stand it.
Because you say so under your breath.
You're reading lips "When did he get all confident?"

Haven't you heard that I'm the new cancer?
Never looked better, and you can't stand it

Haven't you heard that I'm the new cancer?
I've never looked better, and you can't stand it

Haven't you heard that I'm the new cancer?
I've never looked better, and you can't stand it

And I know, and I know, it just doesn't feel like a night out with no one sizing you up.
I've never been so surreptitious, so of course you'll be distracted when I spike the punch.

And I know, and I know, it just doesn't feel like a night out with no one sizing you up.
I've never been so surreptitious, so of course you'll be distracted when I spike the punch.

And I know, and I know, it just doesn't feel like a night out with no one sizing you up.
I've never been so surreptitious, so of course you'll be distracted when I spike the punch.
