Following NPC
« on: September 17, 2008, 09:39:00 PM »
I need advice on how to make an NPC follow the Hero, then be recognized by another NPC.

My Example is taking one NPC and having her follow the hero so that the hero can take her to her mother and get a special Item.

It depends how far you want to travel from where she starts following you to where her mother is. If it's the same map, then you might just want to make her an event that moves 'toward hero' at speed 8 and a high frequency...

Having her follow you from map to map requires her to be on every map and then common events would start to become useful.

If you want the 'caterpillar system' like in FF8... I think someone worked that out but I can't remember who or where you can learn how to do it. I have a feeling it'll be an unnecessary amount of work for such a simple piece of gameplay though.

The poor man's plan is obviously just to make her dissapear like your party members do when you're walking around (phase into you or whatever) and just make a switch when you find her which makes her reappear when you enter her mother's house. To be honest that's what I'd do... These grand ideas are very rarely worth the trouble they generate.

The moose is telling the truth, makign complicated stuff is good to flash about, but people who spend too mcuh time making complicated and fancy things to please the crowd nearly never get the game done.

Caterpillar systems are kinda hard, I think I wrote it down once but I'm not sure.
Just making her join and leave as a scene is probably the best choice though. Poor man's - perhaps, but it works hella' fine.

I had a caterpilar system for one of my games Secrets of Gaia, It invlolved move events and X.Y. and she followed you around the WHOLE world!
Even in dungeons/houses...^__^ But It had bugs, It would mess up if you went into 1sized walkways, The girtl would appear randomly around the map...T__T..
.I might try perfecting that bug And send i to u if I get it right
