Stay still! Please!!! Aaaaaahh!!! For the love of god!!!!!
« on: September 27, 2008, 12:44:16 PM »
God, I'm posting like crazy recently.

Right. Basically, I'm making a switch-out system for my game. In battle, you can
switch characters in and to to save them getting hurt etc. But when I replace Jake
with a new character, the guy next to Jake moves really far back for no reason.
I just looks weird. I want all characters to stay where they are when a new character
is added. Aaaarggh!

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the game as a whole lies on this switch-out
system.

Try posting some pictures and such, otherwise, it's hard for people to tell you what happened.

Here's a reeeeaallllyyy simpppplleee veeerrssssiooonnnnnn.....

Two characters are positioned perfectly on the battlefield. I switch the second character for someone
else. The second character is replaced by the new character who he switched out with. The second
character is positioned fine and nothing is wrong with him. The first character who has NOTHING
to do with this event and is completely unrelated, is then moved out of place into a really random
spot on the battlefield such as a few foot back. Why?

Cheers!

Is it so simple that you've checked "auto" on battlechar placement under "battle layout"? They move the characters around to save place in that case.
Or it might have something to do with rows.

I understood what happened, but I don't understand why. It could be due to you not having "auto" set, as Prpl_Mage said, or it could be a row issue, also as Purple said. But it could also be due to Rm2k3 itself goofing up really bad(although I've never seen anything like this before). If you could post pictures, then we could see how far back they move and tell you if it's a row problem or not.

EDIT: Just missed the part about the first guy moving. It might have to do with Rm2k3, post pics so we see where he moved.

I had a system like this, and it worked fine. I had the auto layout on too. Don't know what you're problem is and couldn't tell you since I lost that script.

I've added more. You can switch back to the original character. When you do so,
the first (unrelated) character stays where he is. If you switch again, he stays
where he is. He only has to ever move once and then he stays in that
position. This is worrying me. Once I put in more characters, he's gonna
be all over the shop!

I suppose the new battlechar(that the cahracter switch into) isn't placed on the same spot, and somehow overlapps the second character. Try to leave more space between the battlechars(from Battle layout window) in that case and see if it works.

I tried placing the new character riiiiight at the end of the screen
and it still did it. I think for the first time, not due to my wrong doing, something
is actually wrong with rm2k3! I don't have a clue!
