Story Idea
« on: November 23, 2008, 08:08:38 PM »
I honestly had no idea where to post this, so I thought this my be the right place. Sorry if it isn't. >_<;;

Recently, one of my role-plays have inspired a story for an RPG. I just wanted to post it and see what you think. It's still very early in and I can do alot of changing here an there. It's also not exactly finished, and is still pretty sketchy. Just keep that in mind.

It's the year 5469. Times for the city have ben harsh, the majority of the city of Viel being a slum. The only people in the city who live in luxury are the scientists and the people of high-class. The rest fend for themselves in any way they can to sruvive.

One other problem is present with these slums; nobody is allowed to leave the city because of the dome that Viel is encased in. This was to assure that the technology being built in the city doesn't leave it. However, no one knows what this technology is, or what it's purpose is.

The people in the slums can do nothing but await their inevitable death because of poverty and illness...Seemingly every day, someone is lost to this means of death. However, there are some professors and scientists who seek to help the people in any way they possibly can.

There is, however, one robotic girl by the name of Reida, who believes that there is something better outside of the dome. She seeks to bring that supposed happiness into the lives of the slum people. But to do that, she has to escape Viel. She goes to a professor by the name of Prof. Nephelle to recieve some minor tune-ups. As she leaves, Nephelle tells her that she knows of Reida's plans. She tells her that she installed two special self-defense weapons for her when she escaped, just in case she needs them. And with that, she begins to find a way out of the city to see a world like nothing before and a journey that will bring her to the fatherst corners of this new world.

Okay, so the ending was a little cliche. just ignore that. >_<;; But I would like to know what you think. Comments and critique are encouraged! :D

Just name why a robot would feel a desire to help people.

Other than the little problem that Prpl said, it sounds pretty good
Just figure out your game mechanics and it'd be awesome

She was designed with the intent to help people at first. Of course, she has the ability of free will, and can think for herself, allowing her to develop ideas and opinions of the world around her. She's been taught about how this world works, and rather than accept it, she sees it as a problem, and desires to help the people who suffer. I hope I didn't repeat myself, but rather explained it better. In a way, it's simulated feelings.

Right. Might work.
But just thinking about it.
A robot(without a sense of feeling or guilt) who see the world as a problem would probably not see it as the highest priority to help those in needs. Maybe at first but as she learns of the problems, she would probably try to prevent the people of higher classes to keep the slum-people down there.

Just a thought. I wouldn't know really. You just gotta portray her more like a robot rather than a person.

What about R2's? Some of them can fell real emotion too. I see no problem with a robot or droid having feelings. Keep up the good work, i'd like to play this game. :) You should probly put this in games or creative arts. After all that's where a sujested story called Fisherson's idea transfomed itno Warped.

As well as the Myrdia draft!

And who's to say a robot can't feel?
It IS a "fantasy" game, after all
As in completely out of your imagination

And you should start making this game, it sounds like a fun idea

Thank you for the comments! :D I've actually started a little, and will post my progress thread in the games forum once I've done some more. Also, one more question: Would it matter to anyone if Reida looked very human-like? (Nearly identicle) Of course, there would be a reason behind why she's built that way, but I just want to see what you peoples think. :D

Just as long as it actually states in game that she's a robot

"Escape from futuristic dome city" is kind of cliche, but that doesn't mean you can't do something amazing with it.
i think perhaps some identifying feature would work. Even if she looks human, maybe her eye color is one you don't see on humans in your game, or hair color? I did that with a race in my game-- all characters except for those of this race have normal hair colors (blonde, black, brown, red, etc), but the ones of this race have colors like blue, green, and purple.

Yeah, make her eyes look different...the hair would be kind of overdoing it, I think
Give the striations in her irises a pattern, or something that isn't possible normally

It realy depends on what she's wearing. An outfit can change your whole perpestive. Also if your using the regaular chara sets, you don't have much choice in making her look human.

If I created a humanoid robot to resemble humans, I would like to make it as close to the humans as I could.
But as a creator, I would also like to mark it. Add something on it that proves that it is my creation.

The shape of pupils and the like is one of those things that would be easily discovered by the people it's around. That wouldn't be so bad if people were to know about it.
Otherwise I'd add something on the arms, legs or neck. Something that wouldn't easily be discovered.

As for appearance; it all depends on how far the technology is.
But if you can make a robot with feelings - it shouldn't be hard to make it be an exact replica of a real human.
But it all depends on the creator really. If he'd give her odd hair, hair colour, eye colour. That's up to him. I guess it would look coloured anyway. But if she had coloured hair and walked around in the slums; she'd probably stick out quite a lot.

Yeah, is she supposed to be able to go in cognito amongst humans, or just make them feel less awkward and just look pretty? That would help to know.
