Crappy Game Reviews: 2011 - Please read!

Drak I know you're feeling under appreciated, and I understand what you're saying but to be fair, I feel like we all keep the forum active and busy...and we all contribute in our own way. You've brought a lot of traffic here and that's great. It's a way of contributing. But we all contribute- Lucas has his art, Val has her comics, you have your videos, Freddie sprites, Archem has his pure awesomeness... And all that is great, it's what makes Charas Charas. But part of what's so great about this forum is that it's made up of so many different parts and not one part is really more important than the other. Not to say that the parts aren't important- just that they're all integral to the flavour of the place. We all like appreciation and there's nothing better than when people enjoy of the things we put our heart and our soul into- but the life of an artist or an entertainer is often that you have to be content with just that. Rewards or other things are just a bonus if they happen to happen. So if you want to continue (and I know people enjoy your videos) keep doing it for yourself and for them, and know that you are recognized and appreciated. But that recognition and appreciation isn't exclusively yours- it spans across every contributor.

Well said. I know a lot of you put your heart and soul into charas. As you said, Zerlina, People on here put a lot of time into art, sprites, music and everything else to give generations of people the resources to create a game. The people who spent hours on making these games for the reviews are a massive part of it. Some of the games I've reviewed were extremely funny in their own right which greatly helped the video, so to that credit is given to the designer. It's easy to lose yourself to the ego game in this world which can actually consume you. I know I've lost myself more than once which is not a good thing. I'm actually a good person.. I don't want power and for people to worship me. I'm nobody to worship, I'm not some powerful being who can grant you wishes or make your life any better.

I appreciate the feed-back and honesty that's given. Nobody wants phony plastic people in this world just nodding their heads at you.

As did I, but that's not what's the problem here. The problem is that Drak doesn't think that he's appreciated because he's brought so many people to the forum. And since I've not been here long, I don't know what the actual case is.

I know how it feels, a few haters can really get you down. As I said, I'll support you in whatever you decide to do.

I don't know what the hell he wants though. He's being very vague and defensive on specifics. We're all volunteers here and none of us see a dime from the site ads or anything - as far as I've heard, the site actually loses money to maintain. I gave him an award, admittedly a little tongue-in-cheek, but it's an award anyway when like nobody has them, so there's that.

I dunno man, I dunno. If Drak thinks he's the only one that's gotten a lot of hate from just doing his best, well, he should ask some of the older members of about the Troll Invasion and my subsequent resignation as admin for like two years over the massive fallout. Well, it happens. Once I realized that I could do what I like without really having to worry about a few complainers the world got a lot simpler.

I'm not going anywhere. I am however going to think about the videos in a whole now and see what I can do to livin the games coming through..  What I actually might do is cancel the "build me a game to review" and start choosing stuff that's already been made and released as a "good game" and do some stuff that way. It wouldn't be so predictable that way.  More-so.. Uh.. oh.. somebody suggested your game was tossed to the orange eyed demon.

Talk to me Charas Project, toss me some ideas.

Sounds like a plan.
As long as the games you review aren't 35 hours long and filled with default battle systems. That would probably wear you out.

And if you want to keep the crappy game reviews, just add some stricter rules on how sucky they can be.
Maybe rename it as "Unserious game-reviews", so people don't try so hard to make them crappy.

I agree. I honestly felt a bit ripped off in that contest. It's not your fault, Drak. It's
more the fault of the majority of videos. Because my game was technically "insane"
rather than "crappy", I didn't win. When people tried to make crappy games, they didn't
try and put any humour in half the time - just try and piss you off instead!

Personally, I find the insane WTF games to be more amusing than crappy games.

You should do crappy AND serious games simutaniously. Like...

Game 1: Serious
Game 2: Crappy
Game 3: Serious

etc.

You need to learn how to take constructive critique like a grown up. I told you where you were lacking, what what needed improvement. Then, four pages of hissy fit, (not to mantion youve called yourself an "RPG maker icon"and seemingly asked charas for money in those pages)


 You need to take the internet less seriously man.
